Russia produces 120 tons of gold ore annually but consumes 35,000 tons of calcium hypochlorite (CH) for mining. However, Russia has not produced CH since 2011 and now imports it from China instead. A company called Brinesib proposes to produce CH from natural raw materials in Russia, which would be environmentally friendly, cost effective, and meet growing domestic demand as gold mining increases. The project would require an initial investment of $4.6 million but yield $1.4 million in annual profit.
