Amanda organized a banquet to raise money to sponsor an undernourished child for a year. She spent over 20 hours researching, booking a venue, finding catering and live entertainment within her $100 budget. On the day of the event, March 3rd, everything went well except the photographer had an allergic reaction and left early. Despite this small setback, Amanda exceeded her fundraising goal.

September 11th-17th I did research for my research paper
(5 hours) and banquet presentation. Before
dinner I presented the information
from my paper to my guests about
cultural effects of food shortages in
Africa.
Commentary:
This was the easiest part of my project,
because I could use my paper for two
parts of my project.
December 11th, 17th Activity:
January 4th-16th I called different spaces to try and book The school would
(about 1.5 hours) a date to have my banquet. I needed a have come in handy
space that would be free or less than here; this was one of
100 dollars, could accommodate live the longest parts of the
entertainment, and had a kitchen. process.
Commentary:
I ended up having to call 26 different
places, including my own church,
before I found an appropriate place. A
friend of mine allowed us to use his
restaurant and kitchen for the night.
January 16th-29th Activity:
(2 hours) Part of my commitment was to provide
live entertainment during my dinner. I
really wanted to have an
Africanchildren’s choir to keep with
the theme. I spent several weeks
finding a choir that would come for a
small donation and finally landed the
Watoto
Commentary:
I almost considered giving up on this

2. part of my project. It was incredibly
hard to find any entertainment,
especially an African children’s choir,
that wouldn’t break my budget. A
friend of mine mentioned that this
group came to her church during a
fundraiser she did, and they were able
January 29th-February to work with me on a price.
7th Activity:
(3 hours) After I had it nailed down when and
where I was going to have my dinner, I
needed to find a way to cater it. I
wanted to keep the food on theme, and
within budget. After talking to a few
students, I found someone who was
looking to cater an event for her senior
project.
Commentary:
The hardest part about this was
money. We had to plan out a meal that
would be worth the twenty dollar
plate, but I was also going to split the
cost with her. I ended up adjusting the
amount of guests I invited so I could
February 15th raise enough to cover the food cost.
(1 hour) Activity:
After I had everything planned out I
sat down with my project facilitator to
see if she agreed with everything I was
doing. She made some minor
suggestions for my presentation, and
we added a few more friends to help
serve the guests.
Commentary:
This is pretty much the only time
through-out my entire project that I
utilized my project facilitator’s
expertise. I had a pretty clear view of
what I wanted and how to do it, so she
ended up just being back up help.

3. March 3rd
(4 hours) Activity:
This was the main event. We arrived at
the restaurant, set everything up,
greeted the guests, I gave my
presentation, the food was served and
the choir came out. Everything turned
out wonderful, except for a few minor
setbacks, and I was able to exceed my
goal by one-hundred dollars.
Commentary:
Everything was flawless until the girl
taking pictures had an allergic reaction,
and had to leave before we really even
got started. Several of the attendee’s
volunteered their personal pictures
from phones and cameras, however I
think the full effect was lost.
