Purtroppo la sua realizzazione si fermò appunto allo stadio prototipale. Racconterò l'affascinante storia del suo sviluppo ed il perchè della soppressione del progetto ormai ad un passo dalla immissione in commercio.

La sperimentazione può essere particolarmente utile quando si tratta di interfacce
di programmazione delle applicazioni o librerie di classi. Supponiamo che si stia
scrivendo un programma che utilizza una libreria di classi che rappresenta un
vettore (in questo contesto, un array monodimensionale che cresce
automaticamente più elementi vengono aggiunti), ma non hai mai usato questa
classe vettoriale prima, e non sei sicuro di quello che succede quando un
elemento viene eliminato dal vettore.
Invece di utilizzare tutta la libreria per risolvere il problema originale, senza avere
certezze del suo funzionamento, è possibile creare un programma più piccolo
(proof of concept), separato solo di giocare con la classe vettoriale e per provare
specificamente il risultato.
Se si spende un po’ di tempo sul vector demo, questo può diventare un punto di
riferimento per il lavoro futuro con la stessa classe.

Altre forme di sperimentazione consistono nelle attività di debug.
Supponiamo che un certo programma produce output numerico, diverso da quanto
previsto, cioè in ordine inverso.
Se non comprendi il motivo esaminando il codice, puoi sperimentare con il
debuging!
Si può provare a modificare le condizioni nel codice per far si che l’output
numerico esegua il ciclo in senso inverso in modo deliberato.
Il conseguente cambiamento, o la mancanza di cambiamenti, in uscita possono
rivelare il problema nel codice sorgente originale o possono rivelare una lacuna
nella vostra comprensione.
In entrambi i casi, si è più vicino a una soluzione.
