Problem-based learning introduces problems for students to solve in order to learn key concepts and skills. Students work in teams to address problems without resources, justifying their arguments with evidence. Examples of problems include analyzing the effects of an eruption of Mount Taranaki, considering where a character in a play might take a pound of flesh from, and examining the implications if 1+1=3. Using problem-based learning requires teamwork, language skills, critical thinking, applying and sharing knowledge, and evaluating information. Problem-based learning with problems aims to put learning in context and develop skills through solving real-world like issues.
