This document summarizes different types of printers. Dot matrix printers print 180 to 360 characters per second and come in various column sizes from 80 to 180. They are cheaper than laser printers but have higher printing costs due to ribbons and cartridges. Inkjet printers print 3 to 15 pages per minute and are cheaper than dot matrix or laser printers, but also have high printing costs. Laser printers print 7 to 28 pages per minute at 1200 to 2400 dots per inch and are high speed, low noise, low maintenance but more expensive than inkjet printers. Laser printers account for 55.5% of total printer sales while inkjet sales make up 46%.
