Inter Act Workshops 2009 Overview
InterAct provides drama, music, and movement workshops for disadvantaged youth. The workshops are delivered in communities across the UK in partnership with local schools and organizations. The workshops help children develop skills and confidence through teamwork and accepting differences. Parents and children say the workshops have had a positive impact in building confidence and skills.

2. Tony is a resident at Homes First who finds relief from his "mixed-up thoughts" through painting abstract landscapes on his bedroom walls. He only recently took up painting after being homeless and struggles to find art supplies.
3. Music and art often help residents at Homes First cope with struggles in their lives and combat their "demons". While their paths to Homes First differed, art acts as a tool for many who are still fighting addictions.

Sciennes United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 8.3.19
Sciennes launched the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS or Global Goals) on the same day they were adopted by the United Nations in New York in September 2015. Eight of our pupils are taking part in a Model UN Conference (MUN) on Monday 25th March with Rob Crawford from UN House Scotland which will have a focus on single use plastic. At the P4-7 Assembly on Friday 8th March 2019 (International Women's Day) we looked at the UN and MUN and listened to a powerful speech on the environment, given by 12 year old Severn Suzuki in 1992. Severn's speech still has a powerful impact today and all the children were visibly entranced and moved by her words. As on the day she gave the speech at the UN Environment Confernence in Rio, you could hear a pin drop in the Hall. Severn was a trailblazer in empowering young people to use their voice and P5B were commended on their End Child Labour campaign. Charlie and Sophie spoke about their involvement in the Children's Climate protests at Parliament and we informed pupils how they can be involved without missing school on Friday 15th March by taking part in the afternoon at the planned Southside Primary Schools Climate March on Parliament. Families have been emailed with details. Families have also been informed of The City of Edinburgh Council's announcement this week that pupils with signed permission to attend in the morning will not be marked as 'unauthorised absence.' P5B marched out of Assembly with placards in hand and distributed End Child Labour leaflets in the playground.
Cross Country runners and P6 Euroquiz Runners Up were congratulated and we ended the Assembly singing "Put A Nose On It' for Comic Relief. Next Friday 15th March is Red Nose Day and pupils were encouraged to wear red and bring a donation if they wish.
Daktari Newsletter May - June 2011
The newsletter summarizes recent events at Daktari Wildlife Orphanage. They built a new house for pigs with help from a sponsor. Sadly, a serval named Jessica was killed by a honey badger and a bush baby named Niña passed away. They had a successful street party fundraiser. Brigitte Bardot Foundation donated funds to build a new mongoose camp. They are still seeking sponsors for some animals. Work started on a new dormitory for children thanks to a donation.
Sciennes #iwill4nature Assembly 24.5.2019
On Friday 24th May 2019 P5 pupils and P7 Captains led our Assembly to get everyone excited about our amazing Year of Green Action #iwill4nature Summer Fair next Saturday 1st June 12pm-2.30pm. Primary Five are taking the lead and have some fantastic activities and stalls. P7 Captains shared how people can help with donations, particularly donating time in coming along and getting involved.
Glee Club performed two outstanding songs from their recent competition entry at the Assembly Rooms and wowed the Hall!
We also shared some photographs from our two special visits this week. Unicef UK on Tuesday (Right Honourable Douglas Alexander, Chair fof Unicef UK, Lucinda Rivers, Chair of Unicef Scotland, author Alexander McCall Smith and David Duke MBE, founder of Street Soccer Scotland) and Deputy First Minister John Swinney with Children's Parliament on Wednesday to launch the introduction of the UNCRC into Scots' law! A busy week and a wonderful celebration of pupil participation at Sciennes.

Each team created a Mind Map and started to make notes about the life of their house hero. They each found a way to connect their house hero with a cause that could raise awareness of issues they faced.
