Kingspan is a global manufacturer of high performance building systems and insulation solutions. They have over 50 years of experience and their insulation systems currently save over 10,563 billion kWh of energy per year, equivalent to significant reductions in CO2 emissions, oil consumption, and more. Kingspan promotes an "EnvelopeFirst" approach to net-zero energy buildings, where high-performance insulation of the building envelope is the first and most cost-effective step, followed by energy efficiency measures, integrated renewables, and ultimately net-zero energy use from highly efficient buildings.
Tim Fenn RIMA International Conference invited presentation 2014Tim Fenn
This document discusses the gaps between predicted and actual energy performance of buildings. It shows data on the predicted annual energy costs of different house types from the past and compares them to a Passivhaus. There are also graphs showing variation in annual heating demand, hot water demand and costs. It identifies potential "target killers" like insulation installation gaps and materials deterioration that can cause buildings to underperform predictions. It concludes that vapour barriers and reflective foils, if installed correctly, can significantly improve performance beyond software predictions and that more in-situ research is needed to understand real-world performance gaps.
Berry Bros. & Rudd, a wine and spirit merchant established in the 17th century, installed a new LED lighting scheme provided by Kyman Ledtex to replace inefficient tube lighting in their 90,000 square foot warehouse. The LED lights improved lighting levels throughout the warehouse while reducing energy usage by nearly 75% in the wine bin area alone. Additionally, the LED lights produce no heat, allowing the cooling units to work less and save more money. As a result of the LED installation, Berry Bros. & Rudd achieved annual electricity savings of 81.71% and over £6,680, cutting over 50,000 kg of CO2 emissions annually.
Timer Solutions produces Solbruk T, a ready-mixed lightweight dry concrete. Solbruk T is waterproof, frost resistant, fireproof, and provides insulation. Kingspan UltraTemp panels were chosen to convert this IDS Transport unit into a gleaming and hygienic food processing facility. These enhanced panels are ideal for extreme temperatures and feature an innovative joint system designed to withstand high pressure washing and regular cleaning.
Kingspan products were used for the roofing and wall panels at Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar. Specifically, a Kingzip SF standing seam roof system covered 98,000 square meters and flat panels were used for the walls. The Kingspan products provided benefits such as being thermally efficient, weatherproof, allowing faster construction, and having fire safety qualities. The Kingzip SF was able to meet the design requirements of creating unique roof curves. Overall, the Kingspan panels were a good fit for the project needs.
Kingspan BENCHMARK Evolution Axis panels were chosen for this project due to their superior thermal performance and stunning aesthetics. The BENCHMARK range of Façade and Roof Systems allows architects and designers to meet their clients’ expectations while providing contemporary and creative buildings, such as the Centenary Hospital for Women and Children.
It was key for this project that the insulated panel system delivered the highest possible functionality and performance. Fire safety and energy efficiency were at the heart of the design brief for this cold-store building.
BENCHMARK Kreate was the perfect solution for this project. The individual cassettes on each panel can be constructed to consist of different sizes and colours, offering complete freedom at design level.
The new Student Hub at Queen's University in Belfast, UK utilized Corten steel hook-on cassettes to create a visually striking building envelope that is also highly energy efficient. The design team worked closely with Kingspan to select products that met the design requirements and tight construction schedule. The Corten steel facade will weather naturally over time to form a protective rust coating while also tying into the industrial heritage of the area. The new building provides an iconic heart for the campus without compromising the historic architecture.
