Prevention of cancer
1. Using Modern & Vedic Medical Science
Principles for Prevention & Cure of Cancer
Dr. Shrikant Bhave
srikant_bhave@yahoo.com
2. Cancer As Per Nobel Laureates
“ Every one should know that the ‘war on cancer’ is
largely a fraud” – Dr. Linus Pauling, Nobel Laureate.
“Intellectually bankrupt, fiscally wasteful and
therapeutically useless” – Dr. James Watson, Nobel
Laureate when asked about Cancer Research and the
National Cancer Program.
These comments reflect only the frustrations of these
great scientists. The picture at present is still very
dismal despite development of highly advanced
diagnostics, treatment methods including highly
sophisticated surgical procedures.
3. General Information (USA Perspective)
In an answer to the question “can we find a cure for cancer”, Dr. A.F.
Khan of national cancer institute says that it is impossible to answer
– cancer is not a single disease and hence there is no single cure.
USA research divides cancers into categories where the disease
originated – cancer of lungs, breast, liver, colon etc.
Sadly, it is not clear as to how and why a rogue cell (cancer cell)
develops in a particular region of the body and then swallows
healthy cells.
Cancer carcinogens are existing every where but not all get cancer.
Many cancer specialists in USA firmly believe that cancer, mostly, is
the cost of being over civilized, overly comfortable and mentally
overstressed. This indeed is the real truth.
People are seriously asking whether or not the drug companies are
shunning other non-drug/radiation treatments for their own
profits. This is absolutely true.
Many cancer specialists believe that preventing cancer is a more
reasonable goal than curing it. But this requires proper diet,
exercises and life style changes that can enable people to remain
stress free. --------- How ? We (Indians) knew it, but in past only.
4. Cancer - Few Impotant Facts
Cancer is an abnormal growth of cells and tissues which have acidic
environment compared to the surrounding tissue which has alkaline
environment. This is the principal reason for loss of communication
between healthy and the cancer cells.
Cancer cells are very similar to the cells of organs from which they
originated and have similar but not identical DNA/RNA. They also
hide themselves with a covering/ coating of proteins and sugar
compounds. Thus the cancer cells are not very often easily detected
by the T cells of body’s immune system and thus they thrive.
Weaker immune system is the hallmark of modern day society.
Unhealthy life style, stresses cause extraordinary damage to the
human immune system making it vulnerable to carcinogen attack.
Alkalinity of body tissue is most important as Cancer cells can’t
exist in alkaline environment. How to achieve this is a big question.
5. Causes Of Cancer (Modern Vs. Vedic Science View)
Still no concrete conclusions have been reached about hereditary factors that
cause initiation and progression of cancers .
Research by Russian and Western scientists show that inadequate cellular
respiration / hypoxia is the Prime reason for acidic environment in the cell &
tissue and consequent development of cancer cell.
Modern medical science considers human body only as a biochemical unit, and
hence cannot satisfactorily explain the reasons for initiation of cellular hypoxia
occurring only in certain regions of the body.
Vedic medical science, on the other hand, considers human body as an energy
complex consisting of the physical body (biochemical unit) surrounded by energy
fields or energy bodies. These fields/bodies are not perceptible to human eyes.
These bodies are connected to physical body thru points called the chakras. The
cosmic life energy enters the physical body only thru these chakras.
Cancer occurs only in that part of the body which does not receive the life
energy due to blockages in the connecting chakras. In a way, it is energy
starvation which affects tissue respiration. Tissue respiration greatly depends
upon our breathing.
Vedic sciences consider that Ahar (diet), Vihar (life style) and Vichar
(thoughts/emotions) have very strong influence on chakras.
6. Yoga Science
Vedic sciences consider that Ahar (diet), Vihar (life style) and Vichar
(thoughts/emotions) have strong influence on chakras. We shall
discuss this later in details.
Diet (Ahar in Sanskrit) provide nutrition necessary for the physical
body. The diet should be such that internal environment of the
body is healthy.
Yoga science strongly recommends healthy lifestyle (Vihar in
Sanskrit). This means avoiding sedentary habits, disciplined daily
routine which includes good sleep, moderate exercises, good
personal and social life etc.
Yoga science considers state of mind (Vichar) as the most important
factor that influences the health in human beings. The state of mind
includes feelings & emotions, anger, jealousy, fear, lust for power,
sex, sadistic attitudes and intense & unrealistic ambitions.
Dietary control with yoga (Asanas/Pranayama) practice can
prevent occurrence of cancer and can also successfully treat it.
7. Human Body
Internal Environment. It
can be controlled
External Environment. Can
have only limited control
We and our health are
greatly influenced by the
environment
Environment
8. Internal Environment
Refers primarily to abdominal cavity but does not
exclude cardio-respiratory system.
The major factors which influence the internal
environment are
Genetic factors (imprinted on dna molecule, normally
not modifiable but esoteric experts as well a few in
modern medical science claim that it can be changed)
Food that we eat (diet) and the way we do so.
Life style (sedentary, irregular diet/sleep habits etc).
Stresses in conscious/subconscious mind, emotional
disturbances, dispair & depressions, anger etc.
We first discuss about role of diet in internal environment.
9. Our Body Processes
All of the cellular processes in our body involve biochemical
reactions & processes over the entire cellular structure of the body.
The entire tissue system of our body for this purpose carries
bioelectric micro currents.
The flow of micro current also enables cellular intercommunication
and functions. We, for this, require certain electrolytes in the
circulation system our body.
These electrolytes are calcium, sodium, potassium, phosphates,
chlorides and magnesium etc. In absence or shortage of these
electrolytes, the diet and the supplements such as iron, vitamins
have no role to play in the growth/sustenance of the body.
10. Body’s Ecosystem
Body requires different concentration of electrolytes in (1)
blood plasma, (2) in tissues and (3) in cellular fluid to
ensure the proper flow of bio-electricity.
A deficiency or absence of required electrolyte causes
disruption/stoppage of cellular signaling. This leads to
serious health disorders.
The intercellular communication occurs throughout the
extracellular tissue matrix.
The matrix contains electrolytes and other substances.
This forms body’s internal environment also called
physical ecosystem.
Blood and lymphatic streams are the most important
components of the body ecosystem. Pranayama/breath
control has profound influence on these important
streams.
11. Balance of Body Ecosystem
For this, we require a precise/perfect acid/alkali balance. This is
expressed by a number pH.
Power of hydrogen (pH) is a measure of relative acidity or alkalinity
of a solution or liquid. pH =7 Is neutral and is of pure water.
pH in the range 0 – 6 is acidic, zero being most acidic.
pH in the range 8 – 14 is alkaline, 14 being most alkaline.
Optimal pH for blood is slightly alkaline. It should be in a very
narrow range of 7.35 to 7.45 only. For this, we require proper levels
of electrolytes in the blood stream.
The tissue environment must be more alkaline compared to blood.
This, in other words, means that blood is relatively acidic compared
to tissue cell.
Acidic environment in tissue is very dangerous. We shall discuss this
in Pranayama part of this presentation.
12. SR.NO. REGION/FLUID pH RANGE COMMENT
I Gastric 1.0 – 3.5 Due to HCL in
stomach
2 Duodenum 4.20 – 8.20 Very wide range
3 Urine 4.8 – 5.80 Acidic. > 6 may
indicate serious
problem
4 Saliva 6.50 – 7.50 < 6 requires
serious
investigation
5 Pancreas 8.0 – 8.30 < 7 may show
some serious
issue
6 Blood 7.35 – 7.45 Most important
Normal pH Range
13. Internal Organs
Stomach acid (HCL) is our first line defense against invading bacteria
and parasites. It also helps in digestion of proteins.
When we eat more acid forming foods (meat etc.) than alkaline
forming foods (vegetables etc.), We deplete our source of alkalizing
electrolyte minerals. To counter this, the body slows down the
production of HCL affecting digestive capacity.
The process of complete digestion cannot take place without
assistance from other organs in the abdomen. They are gall bladder
and pancreas.
Unless the entire system works in a well co-ordinated way, the
internal ecosystem becomes highly imbalanced. Our diet therefore
must include lot of vegetables, fruits etc which are rich in mineral
contents. Additionally, Pranayama/breath control, Yogasanas
greatly improve function of all abdominal organs in the body.
14. Anatomy of the Stomach
Duodenum
STOMACH
Pyloric Sphincter
Bile from GB Juice from Pancreas
Acidic content released in Duodenum
GB releases bile (highly alkaline) and
Pancreas releases its alkaline juice. Both of
these reduces pH of partly digested food from
stomach.
Inability to neutralize the acidity by bile and
pancreatic juice causes constipation, gas etc.
Intestines are highly sensitive to pH. They
cannot accept acidic food.
Sphincter valve senses pH down stream. If it
is acidic, the valve does not operate. The
result is heartburn.
15. The Worst Possible Scenario
Scenario 1: depletion of alkaline reserves in gall bladder
and pancreas forces the body to attempt to pull alkaline
electrolyte calcium in blood stream, bones and teeth.
Scenario 2: highly alkaline blood results in interruption of
bioelectricity to heart. Body, in response draws alkaline
minerals (calcium, Sodium, Potassium etc.) From gall
bladder reserves, liquid cholesterol in bile solidifies
making gall stones. Also tissue environment becomes
acidic – a highly dangerous situation.
The above also increases toxin load in the body affecting
joints and connective tissue.
This also results in congested liver. Very complex health
issues arise because of pollution in internal ecosystem.
The causative factors are wrong dietary habits, sedentary
life style and most importantly stresses in mind.
Pollution of internal ecosystem is one of the major causes of
cancer.
16. MODERN CELL BIOLOGY
Diets consisting of minerals such as calcium, potassium ,
magnesium etc greatly help in achieving alkaline environment in
cells/tissues. Potassium, Calcium and Magnesium are available in
substantial quantity in potato (with peel), banana, bottle gourd
juice, Sweet potato, Coconut water etc. In Vedic medical science, a
lot of emphasis is given on diet especially in cancer treatment.
The living cells possess electrical potential. This helps the cells to
communicate with each other and regulate the cellular function.
When an injury occurs in the body, the normal cells multiply and
they either replace the destroyed cells with new cells or scar tissue.
This process happens because of intercellular electrical
communication.
In cancerous tissue, the electrical potential is very low (<< 40mv)
and thus healthy cells do not get the information to destroy and
replace the cancer cell. Healthy cells have a potential of 60-100 mV
or more. These views are not yet accepted by Allopathy.
17. The cell is a living cell only when it vibrates because of
pulsating life energy obtained through environment and
breathing/food. In Vedic medical science it is said to be
having spandan / chaitannya. The modern biophysics says
that it has a vital force & electrical potential (voltage) that
makes it dynamic.
THE LIVING CELL
In reality, this vibrating motion
is so small & fast that we
cannot realize it
19. Basic Aim of Breathing
The to & fro transport of O2 & CO2 to blood cells. This is
done through lung breathing, also called external
respiration or breathing.
Transport of O2 & CO2 to tissue cells through blood. This
is called internal or cell/tissue respiration. This only
provides generation of energy required by the body.
To charge each cell in the body with life energy without
which it cannot carry out internal respiration required to
carry out cellular function
Breathing, when done properly , achieves the above
20. Human Respiration
The most dangerous thing that can happen
because of incorrect breathing is “cellular
hypoxia”. To understand this , we must know
a few fundamental facts about human
respiratory system and the associated
important physiological processes.
With this, we will be in a position to
understand the way we can overcome the
cellular hypoxia.
22. Nasal Cavities or Oral Cavity

Alveoli ( Site of Gas Exchange)
Pathway of Air in Breathing
24. Alveoli
There are about 300
million Alveoli in the lung
structure.
Total surface area is of the
order of 75-100 square
meters.
Exchange of O2 & CO2
with blood takes place at
Alveoli .
Alveolus is the place where O2 & CO2 are exchanged
25. O2 DIFFUSES TO BLOOD FROM
ALVEOLI AND CO2 FROM BLOOD
DIFFUSES TO ALVEOLI - NOT
INSTANTANEOUS PROCESSES
THE DIFFUSION IS VERY
EFFICIENT BECAUSE ALVEOLI AND
CAPILLARIES HAVE VERY THIN

DIFFUSION OCCURS BECAUSE
OF PRESSURE DIFFERENCE.
HIGHER THE PRESSURE

26. Figure shows the gas exchange at
a cell. During this, certain
chemical reactions take place
resulting in generation of energy
(ATP), carbon dioxide and water.
These products play a major role
in the metabolic processes in the
body.
These chemical reactions are not
instantaneous. They do take their
own time to complete.
Therefore, the depth & rhythm of
breathing is very important. Too
fast rhythm and very deep
breathing is senseless as well as
could prove to be very
dangerous.
27. Tissue/Cell Respiration- Healthy Process
O2 picked up by the blood in small blood vessels, is used by body cells to generate energy
from the glucose in blood. The process also generates H2O and CO2 as per the aerobic
reaction known as oxygen metabolism reaction:
6O2 (From Breath) + C6H12O6 (Glucose in Blood) + BMR (Basal Metabolic
Rate) = ERGS/ATP (Energy) +6CO2 +6H2O (Pure Water).
The water generated is used for making lymph which is a very important part of immune
system (defense system) of the body. Any problem in correctly achieving the above reaction
causes dramatic lowering of the energy generation and most importantly, generation of
water required to make lymph. Also, it is very important to ensure that the water/lymph flow
is not stagnated.
A part of CO2 dissolves in water making carbonic acid which is returned to blood. This
makes the blood relatively acidic (in comparison with tissue) in character. Key to disease free
body is oxygen metabolism, generation and propulsion of lymph and precise pH value of
blood (7.3-7.45).
Remaining CO2 as well as unutilized O2 are expelled out during exhalation.
28. Bohr Effect
O2 is transported to blood only by hemoglobin in red blood cells (RBC). Low hemoglobin
content in the blood is therefore very dangerous. Anemia can lead to variety of health
disorders.
Hemoglobin senses the concentration of CO2 generated in the cell and releases oxygen of
only required amount. Thus, some organs / tissues like heart muscle which works very
hard and produces more co2 , receive more oxygen through hemoglobin. This is indeed a
very smart self regulating mechanism of efficient transport of oxygen.
In case, due to certain reasons , the concentration of CO2 falls, the cell/tissue will starve of
oxygen. In such a case the energy generation still takes place, but by anaerobic process. In
this process additional substances such as lactic acids, uric acid etc are generated.
These acids make the cell environment acidic. Also the production of water significantly
decreases. This condition is called “hypoxia” and is very dangerous.
In extreme case, the body may experience acidosis and experience complex diseases such
as BP, diabetes and even cancers.
29. DEFECTIVE O2 RESPIRATION
The body cells consume O2 to generate energy and produce CO2 & H2O. Part of
this CO2 dissolves in water to make carbonic acid and hydrogen ion. This is
transferred to blood. This is extremely important because it makes blood
relatively acidic while tissue environment remains alkaline. If reverse happens,
cellular acidosis will take place and the cells / tissue may get destroyed or
malignant.
Assume that some tissue or cell (having acidic environment) accumulates toxins /
carcinogens. This micro pollution generates free radicals, further alters normal
environment locally. This causes severe local hypoxia.
Instead of oxidation of sugar (in normal cells), fermentation of sugar takes place
in the tissue cells.
Highly differentiated cells are then transformed into fermenting anaerobes.
These leave all their body functions except, the now, useless property of growth
and replication. Thus they become cancer cells.
If the acid-alkali balance is achieved, body makes the enzymes / hormones
required for metabolism and good health.
The first step to avoid occurrence of cancer or to restrict its spread, is to ensure
that our O2 respiration is not defective.
30. TISSUE/CELL HYPOXIA
Hypoxia (very low concentration of CO2 in the
blood) is caused by number of factors such as:
Very rapid and deep breathing because of long term
fear, shock or unscientific breathing exercises.
Habitual breathing through mouth,
Lack of physical activities,
Incorrect dietary habits & habitual consumption of
junk food, alcohol
Chest breathing due to continuous mental stress,
Overeating,
Adulteration of food/drinks etc.
31. How To Overcome Long Tem Hypoxia - First Pranayama
A Very simple test can be done at any time during the day to know whether or not
we are having continuous hypoxia.
Sit comfortably and do easy/normal inhalation followed by easy/normal
exhalation.
But after this, hold or pause next inhalation till such time that it is
comfortable. (Bahya kumbhak)
In case you are suffering from asthma, you will not be able to hold more
than 4-5 seconds, if you suffer from BP/diabetes etc, your hold time will
be around 15 seconds.
Do not get frightened by small control pause initially. With practice, the
control pause will come around 30-45 seconds which is a confirmatory test
for absence of hypoxia. In fact, this is the easiest Pranayama which can
be done for any number of times in a day and in any relaxing posture
including sleeping posture. This is often used by practioners of Siddha Yoga. It
is called “Nisshesha Rechaka”
Practice of this Pranayama for few days brings a great deal of harmony in
breathing and brings a very high level of calmness of mind & relaxation. This
is most important while treating complex diseases (cancer).
32. Breathing Exercise 1 for Steady Mind
Keep your left palm on naval region
Inhale effortlessly but at rhythm as slow as possible.
Exhale effortlessly at rhythm as slow as possible.
Pause next inhalation till such time it is
comfortable. This pause is called Bahya Kumbhaka.
Do this 10-12 times at a stretch. You can do it any
number of times a day but not for long durations
Ensure that your spine is straight. No necessity to sit
in cross-legged posture. Keep your eyes closed.
Try to achieve exhalation pause of 30 – 45 seconds
over a period of two/three weeks.
33. Scientific Rationale Behind This Exercise
• In normal breathing, oxygen is delivered through lung structure to
blood capillaries to make it oxygenated.
• Oxygenated blood helps burning of sugar in the blood resulting in
generation of energy, pure water and CO2.
• In the exercise described in previous slide results in intermittent
hypoxia (lack of oxygen in blood).
• In the case of fetus, the partial pressure of oxygen received through
blood in umbilical cord is much reduced facilitating huge generation
of stem cells compared to child or adult. In adults intermittent
hypoxia done for short spells helps increased generation of stem cells
in bone marrow in adults.
• This increased generation of stem cells provides an incredible push to
health by way of regeneration of cellular structure and highly
improved immune system of body. In older texts on Yoga this
breathing has been called “Nisshesha Rechaka”.
34. Missing Link
Although the theory that tissue hypoxia is responsible for the initiation
and progression of cancer appears to be sound and correct, it is quite a
mystery for western medical science that hypoxia starts at a particular
organ tissue and results into initiation of cancer. It is not at all a mystery
for Vedic medical science.
It is not clear to modern medical science as to why the immune system
of the body fails to identify and destroy the cancer cells (foreign
cells).
Western medical science considers human body as only a biochemical
unit which responds to chemical drugs/surgical procedures.
Their treatments are therefore based upon symptoms only and thus they
do nothing or very little to identify and remove the root cause.
Vedic medical science has a somewhat different approach. This is based
upon the fact that the brain also breathes prana.
We shall now discuss about Vedic medical science approach.
35. Approach in Vedic Medical Science
The human beings receive energy from two sources, namely the cosmic life energy and
energy from food (in oxygen metabolism). It is obvious that in absence of supply of cosmic
life energy, the second source of energy is meaningless.
The total entity of a living human is the physical body surrounded by several energy bodies
(fields) connected to the physical body at points called the chakras. These energy bodies
communicate with universal life energy/force and receive the vital energy required in
various parts of physical body for life processes.
In case a chakra is blocked, the part(s) of the physical body connected to it does not
adequately receive the cosmic life energy. This results into initiation of disease.
These energy bodies (fields) are not visible to normal human eye as they are
electromagnetic fields in a frequency range not perceptible to human sensory organs.
These, in fact, are the seats of emotions, mind, intellect, spirituality etc. Most of the
complex health issues result due to distortions in the energy bodies.
This energy body complex, as defined in Vedic medical science, is a great concept. Modern
research in biophysics appears to have reinvented these concepts through application of
principles of quantum physics to living organisms. Some photographic evidence of energy
bodies has appeared in the recent research.
The concept of energy bodies and chakras is based upon the fact that brain also breathes.
We shall now discuss about brain breathing.
36. With inhalation, we take
life energy and also O2 &N2
in our system.
Majority of the inhaled
breath goes to lungs and
does transport of O2/CO2 to
the blood/cells.
A very small part of the
breath travels to the roof of
nasal cavity. This portion only
enables brain to “breathe”.
It only enables heart to
beat by triggering its
electrical activity.
FOR BREATHING OF
BRAIN
BREATHING OF BRAIN
37. CSF CONTAINS SOME SPECIAL MOLECULES CALLED
NEUROPEPTIDES WHICH WORK AS MESSANGER
MOLECULES. THEY MOVE THROUGH THE ENTIRE BODY
AND CONTROL VARIOUS CELLULAR PROCESSES.
ENDORPHINS ARE TYPICAL PAIN RELIEVING
NEUROPEPTIDES. NEUROPEPTIDES ARE LIGANDS
WHICH BIND TO SEVERAL RECEPTOR SITES, SEVERAL
THOUSANDS IN CELLS AND MILLIONS IN NEURONS
MINUTE PART OF
BREATH GOING
TO BRAIN.
HIGHLY SIMPLIFIED MODEL OF LIFE ENERGY CURRENT. UNLESS THIS
CURRENT STARTS, HEART WILL NOT GET IMPULSE TO START BEATING.
38. The inhaled breath comprises of electromagnetic energy which is passed on to the
highly conductive cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). The brain in turn gets the life energy and
activates important glands in the brain and also the nervous system which
originates in the brain.
The EM received in brain also activates pumping mechanisms in the brain and
spine to activate flow of CSF between brain and spine. The flow of life energy/ life
current enables heart to receive the electrical impulse and start beating.
The glands such as thyroids, adrenal, pancreas and gonads receive the
electromagnetic energy through duramater sheath of spinal cord. They must
however receive appropriate hormones secreted by the brain glands. Without the
inputs of hormones from the brain glands, these glands cannot secrete their own
hormones. The most important aim of Pranayama is to properly charge the entire
endocrine gland system of the body with life energy from cosmos.
PART OF BREATH GOING TO BRAIN
39. The command for inhalation and exhalation of the breath is given by the brain.
The human physiology is controlled through a system of endocrine glands situated
in the brain/out side brain and a complex nervous system originating in the brain.
This nervous system has two components namely somatic nervous system and the
autonomic nervous system.
The somatic system, which controls five senses of perception (to see, hear, touch,
taste and smell) is consciously controllable.
The autonomic nervous system (normally not consciously controllable) has two
parts.
These components are called sympathetic nervous system and parasympathetic
nervous system.
Both of these systems originate in the brain and travel on either sides of spine.
During this, they cross each other at several points to form plexuses (crossings) or
chakras. Both of these nervous systems as well as the plexuses/chakras are activated
only by the packets electromagnetic waves contained in the inhaled breath.
These systems in reality are the nerve fibers/energy channels. It is therefore
extremely important to ensure equal flow of energy in them. This ensures that the
chakra is not blocked.
LIFE ENERGY IN THE BODY
40. AUTONOMIC NERVOUS SYSTEM IN VEDIC MEDICAL
SCIENCE
Vedic medical system calls sympathetic system as Pingala Nadi and the
parasympathetic system as Ida Nadi.
These Nadis are energy channels through which life energy flows. Indian
medical system puts a great emphasis on equal flow of life energy in these
Nadis.
There is one more very important energy channel called Sushumna which, in
normal humans is dormant (inactive). this channel is of very great importance
in spirituality.
In fact, there are additional 72000 Nadis. when all the Nadis happen to carry the
life energy, the person has extremely good health in body, mind and the spirit.
Ida & Pingala on their route from brain to spine, cross at certain points making
plexuses (crossings). these are called chakras in Vedic medical science. the
energy bodies get connected with physical bodies through these chakras.
The principal aim in Pranayama is to balance flow of life energy in Ida & Pingala
and avoid blockages in the chakras. This enables efficient transport of life energy
to total body.
41. Autonomic Nervous System
Sympathetic (Pingala)
Inhalation and delivery of o2/nutrients.
Physical activity
Heart rate during delivery of blood from
heart
Gets overactive in state of anger,
anxiety, fear, grief, jealousy etc. In this
state, breathing rate, blood pressure,
heart rate etc rise significantly.
Overactive system greatly affects
digestion, sleep, sexual desire, secretion
of insulin, immune system etc.
Note that breath is part of this system
and is consciously controllable.
Parasympathetic (Ida)
Exhalation
Relaxation to body and mind.
Responsible for creativity, intellectual
capabilities, calmness, composure etc.
Heart rate during return of blood to heart
Controls heart rate, bp and aids immune
system.
Ensures good digestion, sleep, sexual
function. Over activity makes the person
useless for worldly duties, a non achiever.
Note that breath is part of this system and is
consciously controllable.
These channels usually have alternate dominance.
The state of mind dictates this to a large extent.
The key to disease free body is the precise balance in Ida & Pingala. This is the
principal aim of Pranayama yoga.
These nadis cross each other at several points called “Chakras”
43. Plexus of Ida & Pingala to form Adnya chakra. This only
enables Adnya Chakra to get charged with universal life
energy “Prana”
Adnya Chakra is called
the Third Eye. The region
between this chakra and
the crown chakra forms a
very important energy
body.
44. Of the three components of human body, the last – prana
(electrical charge) is least understood.
Electrical energy is most obvious when it is absent. If there is partial
absence of energy in the body, weakness or disease invades.
The breath we take (in addition to N2, CO2 & O2), actually consists
of packets of electromagnetic energy present in the cosmos
surrounding us. Major part of the breath goes to lungs for oxygenation
of blood for production of energy and other metabolic products.
A very small part of the breath goes to brain. Although very small,
this part only sustains the life in real sense.
This small part is called “Prana”. It has five components called
“Pancha Prana”.
We show this in next slide.
Prana – Life Energy
45. PRANA VAYU GOVERNS REGION BETWEEN LARYNX & BASE OF

WITHOUT UDAN, PRANA HAS NO VALUE. UDAN CONTROLS BODY
ABOVE LARYNX.
VYANA VAYU IS ALL PERVADING ENTIRE BODY AND IS PRINCIPAL CO-
ORDINATOR OF OTHER VAYUS. IT HAS NO SPECIFIC SEAT
NOTE THAT THESE VAYUS
ARE NOT THE USUAL GASES .

46. Chakras
• The non-physical issues (to our sensory perceptions) such as happiness,
fear, sorrow, anger, greed, jealousy etc considerably influence the chakras.
• Vedic medical science, which also deals with spirituality, identifies each of
the seven chakras with specific health conditions that may arise during
the quest for disease free body and also the spiritual consciousness
• The first chakra, at the base of the spine, relates to the material world.
• The second chakra, just below the belly button, deals with creative
energy, sexuality, work, and physical desires.
• The third chakra, at the solar plexus, holds lessons concerning the ego,
personality, and self-esteem.
• The fourth chakra lies at the heart and contains lessons about forgiveness,
compassion, and love.
• The fifth chakra, at the base of the throat, relates to the use of will and
self-expression.
• The sixth chakra, or "third eye" in the center of the forehead, deals with
wisdom, insight, and intuition.
• The lessons of the crown chakra at the top of the head concern
spirituality.
49. PRANA VAYU GOVERNS REGION BETWEEN LARYNX & BASE OF

50. Causes of diseases (1)
• Vedic medical science tells that most of the diseases begin in the lower
three chakras, namely (1) root (Mooladhar chakra), (2) sacral
(Swadhisthana chakra)and most important (3) solar plexus (Manipur
chakra). We shall discuss in details about Manipur chakra later.
• These chakras are the ones that deal with external factors that cause
derailment of health and complex diseases such as cancer. These factors
are (1) Unresolved conflicts with one’s own family and/or society, (2)
apprehensions about own survival/living standard in society, (3) and most
importantly, the feeling about being ruled by worthless/unscrupulous
people
• These, initially create violent discord in the first chakra (Mooladhar).
• Anatomically, the first chakra relates to physical body support, the base of
the spine, legs, bones, feet, rectum, and the immune system.
• The people having blockage in root chakra develop the immune system
diseases.
• They have terrible worries about there own survival.
Developing self respect, and a sense of personal honor, feeds strong
positive energy to the root chakra which in turn overcome diseases in
bones, legs, and immune system. Pranayama enables the practioners to
achieve this.
51. Causes of diseases (2)
• The second chakra, Swadhisthana/sacral, gets
disrupted/unbalanced by factors such as (1) our
subdued real creative energy, (2) money and sexual
conflicts,(3) power struggles in home or profession,
(4) lack of honor given by your superior in job life/life
partner.
• Physical organs most affected by second chakra issues
include sexual organs, large intestine, lower vertebrae,
pelvis, appendix, bladder, and hip area
• Fear of losing control and fear of power can eventually
manifest as ailments such as chronic pain in the lower
back and pelvic area, arthritis, prostate or ovarian
cancer, impotency, and bladder problems.
52. Causes of diseases (3)
• The third chakra (Manipur) corresponds to self-responsibility and self-respect.
This is the most important chakra since it connects our lower and upper bodies.
Any blockage/distortions in this chakra can cause variety of complex diseases in
our entire physical body including majority of cancers.
• Our etheric body (Pran Deha) supplies the universal life force/energy from
cosmos to our entire body through this chakra. This is quite similar to fetus
receiving the nutrition and oxygen from mother through umbilical cord. The
connection between our etheric body and physical body is through a cord (silver
cord according to Buddhism) that comprises of bundles of EM wave packets not
perceptible to human eyes.
• Issues concerning self-responsibility, caring for oneself and others, self-esteem,
fear of rejection, and an over-sensitivity to criticism eventually manifest as
ailments in the abdomen, stomach, upper intestines, liver, gallbladder, kidney,
pancreas, adrenal glands, spleen, and middle spine. It has also found that health
disorders such as arthritis, anorexia, and bulimia often relate to third chakra
issues.
53. Causes of diseases (4)
• The fourth chakra (Anahata or the heart chakra)
corresponds to love, commitment, compassion, forgiveness,
hatred, resentment, bitterness, grief, anger, loneliness, and
self-centeredness.
• Holding onto the negative emotions, whether they are
directed towards oneself or others, or intentionally causing
pain for other people saps life energy from body and soul.
• Fear, also, drains and disrupts heart energy. Fear of
loneliness, commitment, betrayal, fear of the inability to
protect oneself emotionally, and of 'following one's heart'
contribute to dysfunctions of this chakra. The heart chakra
involves the heart and circulatory system, lungs, upper back,
shoulders and arms, ribs, breasts, diaphragm, thymus gland.
• Tapping into the energy of love reduces fear. Love is a
potent healing force for body and spirit, as many doctors
recognize.
54. Causes of diseases (5)
• The fifth chakra (Vishuddhi or throat chakra) is positioned at
the base of the throat. It acts as a focal point for the heart
energy (from fourth chakra) and the mind energy (from the
sixth chakra).
• Its energy relates to willpower and the power of choice, the
most basic manifestation of self-expression. Every area of
our lives, including health and illness, is directly affected by
the choices we make and how we make them.
• Before we make a choice, we often experience a struggle,
between the emotional and mental sides of ourselves. That
struggle disrupts the throat chakra.
• Prolonged disruption can manifest as physical dysfunctions
that involve the throat, thyroid, trachea, neck vertebrae,
mouth, teeth and gums, esophagus, parathyroid, and
hypothalamus. Such disruptions also play a role in
addiction.
55. Causes of diseases (6)
• While heart energy resides at the fourth
chakra, the mind and intellect come through
the sixth chakra (Adnya or brow chakra),
located at the center of the forehead.
• Feelings of inadequacy, unwillingness to self-
examine our fears and shadows, and fear of
truth contribute to physical dysfunctions that
involve the brain, nervous system, eyes, ears,
nose, pineal gland, and pituitary gland.
56. Causes of disease (7)
• The seventh chakra (crown), at the crown of the head,
relates to values, courage, humanitarianism, and the
ability to see a larger pattern. It is the chakra of
inspiration, spirituality and devotion, and the ability to
trust life. Its lessons aim to teach us how to live in the
present moment.
• Extreme sensitivities to light, sound, and other
environmental factors, chronic exhaustion that is not
linked to any physical disorder, and depression
indicates disruptions in the crown chakra.
We now discuss some important details about solar
plexus (Manipur chakra)- a chakra due to which we are
alive and which controls several diseases. In fact, major
attention is given to this chakra in yoga as well as in
Pranayama.
57. Manipur Chakra
• Vedic sciences/Yoga practice puts lot of
emphasis on a place called as Manipur
Chakra in the body.
• This is located in naval region. Modern
medical sciences calls it as Solar Plexus
(Chakra).
• It is important to know a few details of
Manipur Chakra.
• It is the power house of the physical body.
• Majority of complex diseases have their
origin in blocked Manipur Chakra as it
causes imbalance in other chakras also.
58. Solar Plexus (Manipur Chakra)
• Is situated in the abdomen.
• The sympathetic nervous system (called Pingala Nadi in Vedic
medical science) and parasympathetic nervous system (called Ida
Nadi) branches of the autonomic nervous system of our body form
a plexus (Chakra in Vedic sciences) or joint in this region.
• The filaments of these nerves accompany branches of Aorta which
are distributed to stomach, liver, pancreas, intestines and other
organs but not lungs. Disorders in these organs derail both mental
and physical health of the body.
• Its place is popularly known as pit of stomach.
• Solar plexus receives and distributes nerve impulses and currents to
main organs of nutrition and assimilation it is therefore considered
as a great power house of physical life energy.
• Majority of Yoga practices concentrate on Solar plexus.
59. Solar Plexus (Manipur Chakra)
• Solar plexus is found to be fully formed, perfect and is able to
perform some important physical functions such as growth in
human embryos/fetus at a very early stage – at a stage in which
skull brain of the unborn is not fully formed.
• Injury to Manipur Chakra (Solar Plexus) very seriously disturbs
physiological as well as emotional life processes.
• Occultists/ancient sages believed that solar plexus is the seat of
emotional nature of man – not acceptable to modern sciences.
• Intense fear, dread etc. are accompanied by sinking or even sick
feeling in the pit of stomach, involuntary passing of urine or even
loose motions.
• Failure or malfunction of liver is one of the causes of emotional
depression. Obstinate constipation causes lack of energy and feeling
of heaviness.
• It is very important to note that no emotion is completely
experienced until its physical states are expressed.
60. Solar Plexus
• The third chakra (Manipur) corresponds to self-
responsibility and self-respect. Loss of self esteem and
fear of rejection cause blockage in this chakra.
• The above and an over-sensitivity to criticism eventually
manifest as ailments in the abdomen, stomach, upper
intestines, liver, gallbladder, kidney, pancreas, adrenal
glands, spleen, and middle spine.
• The problems manifest as hyperacidity, peptic ulcers
irritable bowels syndrome, constipation, diabetes,
hypertension, colon & liver cancers etc.
• It has also found that health disorders such as arthritis,
anorexia, and bulimia often relate to third chakra issues.
• Majority of Yogasanas aim at balancing this chakra
61. The figure above shows some groups of cells in a tissue say of
lungs.
The cells, which receive the life energy from electromagnetic
waves in the cosmos, are able to perform their cellular function.
Some of the groups are shown to be not receiving the life energy as
per their needs. The cells in this group will experience hypoxia and
then cancer since some carcinogens are present in them. This will
initiate lung cancer.
62. Balancing of Chakras
The activities of the left and right brain hemispheres tend to alternate through
out the day. This is because of alternating routes/channels of the life energy flow
to our body. The activities in the conscious/subconscious mind greatly influence
this.
These channels alternate in their predominant activities over 2-3 hrs. Cycle in
average human beings. When the left brain is more active, the flow in the right
nostril is predominant while the left is relatively congested and vice versa. A
highly active and ambitious person will have predominance of right nostril but
then he is in a highly stressed condition.
The basic principle behind Anulom- Vilom Pranayama is based upon alternaing
dominance of brain hemispheres. Anulom – Vilom Pranayama balances the
energy flows in Ida/Pingala and thus the blockages/distortions in chakras and
the energy bodies are removed.
Other very effective Pranayama is Kapalbhati. In this we do natural soft
inhalation followed by forced exhalation at a frequency of one per second. The
force of exhalation, duration and rhythm must be set as per guidance only.
63. IMPORTANT PRANAYAMS AND DIET FOR
ERADICATION OF CANCER
SOFT BAHYA PRANAYAM FOR AS MANY TIMES AS POSSIBLE.
SLOW RHYTHM (5-6 BREATHS PER MINUTE BHASTRIKA) FOR 7-
10 MINUTES.
KAPAL BHATI AT 40-60 BREATHS PER MINUTE FOR ABOUT 20
MINUTES. THIS NEED NOT BE IN A SINGLE STRETCH DEPENDING
UPON TOLERANCE LEVEL OF THE INDIVIDUAL.
ANULOM-VILOM (5-6 BREATHS PER MINUTE) FOR ABOUT 25-30
MINUTES.
BHRAMARI FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES.
SHAVASAN FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES.
PANCHAKARMA: VERY EFFECTIVE IN BODY DETOXIFICATION
DIET SHOULD BE SUCH THAT IT RESULTS IN ALKALINE BODY TISSUE. THE BEST
RESULTS CAN BE OBTAINED BY REGULAR CONSUMPTION OF BANANA, RED
POTATO WITH SKIN (ROASTED), JUICE OF LAUKI (BOTTLE GOURD)
64. IMMUNE SYSTEM IS
(A) NETWORK OF CELLS, TISSUES AND ORGANS THAT WORK
TOGETHER TO DEFEND THE BODY AGAINST ATTACKS BY FOREIGN
INVADERS.
MICROBES (GERMS) – TINY INFECTION CAUSING BACTERIA, VIRUSES,
PARASITES AND FUNGI.
CANCER CELLS.
(B) IT IS THE JOB OF IMMUNE SYSTEM TO KEEP THEM OUT. IN CASE
THESE INVADERS FIND ENTRY IN THE BODY,IMMUNE SYSTEM
MUST DESTROY THEM.
(C) COMPLEX DISEASES ARTHRITIS, CANCER OR AIDS CAN OCCUR
WHEN THE IMMUNE SYSTEM IS CRIPPLED.
65. IMMUNE SYSTEM COMPRISES OF
LYMPHOCYTES IN BLOOD: THESE COMPRISE OF
T-CELLS AND NK CELLS - SURVEILLANCE CELLS OF
IMMUNE SYSTEM. THEY ARE CAPABLE OF
DESTROYING TUMOR CELLS AND INFECTED
CELLS.
STUDIES AT AIMS (DELHI) HAS SHOWN
SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN NK CELLS, T CELL WITH
PRANAYAM.
LYMPH SYSTEM WHICH CARRIES THESE
SOLDIERS.
LYMPHOID ORGANS ARE THE BATTLE GROUNDS
FOR LYMPHOCYTES.
66. ORGANS OF IMMUNE SYSTEM
(A) THE ORGANS OF THE IMMUNE SYSTEM (CALLED LYMPHOID ORGANS) ARE
STRATEGICALLY POSITIONED THROUGHOUT THE BODY.
(B) THEY ARE CALLED LYMPHOIDS BECAUSE THEY ARE HOMES TO LYMPHOCYTES,
SMALL WHITE BLOOD CELLS ETC WHICH ARE THE KEY PLAYERS IN THE
IMMUNE SYSTEM.
(C) THE MOST IMPORTANT COMPONENTS FOR LYMPHOCYTES:
(1) BONE MARROW – SOURCE OF ALL BLOOD CELLS, WBC WHICH BECOME
IMMUNE CELLS
(2) THYMUS- WHICH MATURES T CELL LYMPHOCYTES
ALSO THERE ARE OTHER CELLS, CALLED NATURAL KILLER (NK) CELLS.
(D) LYMPHOCYTES TRAVEL THROUGHOUT THE BODY USING BLOOD VESSELS AND
LYMPHATIC VESSELS.
(E) LYMPH VESSELS CARRY LYMPH – FLUID PRODUCED BY THE BODY.
(F) LYMPH NODES ARE THE BEAN SHAPED NODES WITH CLUSTERS IN THE NECK,
ARM PITS, ABDOMEN AND GROIN.THESE ARE THE PLACES WHERE INFECTIONS
AND CANCER CELLS ARE DESTROYED.
67. IMPORTANT LYMPH NODES
Spleen – a flattened organ at the upper left of the abdomen.
Contains specialized compartments where immune cells gather
and work. Serves as meeting ground where immune defenses
confront antigens.
Tonsils
Adenoid
Appendix
M.A.L.T. (Mucosal associated lymphoid tissue).
Immune cells and foreign particles enter lymph nodes via incoming
lymphatic vessels or the tiny blood vessels on the nodes.
All lymphocytes exit lymph nodes through outgoing lymphatic
vessels – once they are in blood stream, they are transported to
tissues throughout the body.
These are very complex systems.
68. One can see the overall spread of
the lymphatic system and also the
most important nodes.
Major vessel is the thoracic duct
which begins near lower part of
the spine and collects lymph from
pelvis, abdomen and lower chest.
Thoracic duct runs up through the
chest and empties into blood
through a larger vein near left side
of the neck.
Right lymphatic duct is other
major lymphatic vessel and
collects lymph from right side of
the neck and empties into a large
vein near right side.
Note that while for blood
circulation we have heart as a
pump , lymphatic system has no
pump.
69. LYMPH GENERATION
As late as 1985, western medical science believed that
generation of lymph is due to filtration of blood plasma from
capillaries. This view has now altered.
It is now understood that the major portion of the body’s
lymph is produced by the identical physiological process that
generates body’s chemical energy (oxygen metabolism). In the
simplest form, at the cell level following chemical reaction takes
place
6O2(FROM BREATH) + C6H12O6(GLUCOSE IN BLOOD) + BMR (BASAL
METABOLIC RATE) = ERGS (ENERGY) +6CO2 +6H2O (PURE
Thus six molecules of water are generated for each six
molecules of oxygen that are metabolized in energy production.
This water and the blood plasma make the lymph fluid.
Hypoxia seriously affects production of the lymph.
70. PROPULSION OF LYMPH
The human blood circulation system uses heart as the
pumping mechanism.
There is no pumping organ for lymph circulation.
The lymphatic flow can stagnate or even stop for many
reasons such as fatigue, stress, emotional shock,
consumption of certain foods. This, of course does not
cause instant death as it may happen when heart fails to
work. But then it creates such bad health conditions that
the quality of life becomes extremely poor.
This is because supplying and regeneration of cells is very
poorly carried out. The toxins accumulate, aging hastens
and flood gates are open for proliferation of very complex
health disorders.
71. LYMPH PROPULSION
Breath mechanism.
Specific body postures called Yogasanas.
“Surya Namaskar” is one of most effective way for lymph
propulsion.
Walking/jogging and other aerobic exercises.
Pranayama, Yogasanas and Surya Namaskar give the best
results. These not only tones up immune system but also
other systems of body.
All of the above involve Diaphragm muscle.
72. DIAPHRAGM
CENTRAL MUSCLE OF THE HUMAN
BODY.
PRINCIPAL MUSCLE OF BREATHING.
SEPARATES THE BODY IN HALF FROM
TOP TO BOTTOM
HEART RESTS ABOVE AND NEXT TO IT.
LIVER,GALL BLADDER, SPLEEN ,
STOMACH AND KIDNEYS LIE BELOW
AS IT MOVES, MASSAGING OF ALL
ABDOMINAL ORGANS TAKES PLACE
WITH AGE AND ALSO WITH SEDANTERY LIFE STYLE, THE DIAPHRAGM SHRINKS.
WITH SHRINKING OF DIAPHRAGM, IT WILL LESS RISE AND THUS THE AMOUNT OF
AIR MOVED TO LUNGS DRASTICALLY REDUCES.
DIAPHRAGM IS THE MEDIATOR OF ALL BIOLOGICAL AND EMOTIONAL RHYTHM OF
OUR BODY INCLUDING AUTONOMIC NERVOUS SYSTEM.
DIAPHRAGM INTERCONNECTS OUR ABDOMEN, LUNGS AND SPINE. ITS MOVEMENT
IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.
VARIOUS YOGASANAS RESULT INTO TONING UP OF DIAPHRAGM AND THEREFORE
ARE VITAL FOR OUR HEALTH.
73. ROLE OF DIAPHRAGM
Body’s biggest lymphatic vessel is the thoracic duct.
This begins near the lower part of the spine.
Thoracic duct collects lymph from the lower limbs, pelvis,
abdomen and lower chest.
The rate of flow of the lymph at the thoracic duct is
proportional to the depth of inhalation.
The total volume of lymph that enters the central veins
depends both on the depth of inhalation and the overall
breathing rate.
The diaphragm is the main pump of the lymphatic system.
Many of the Asanas and especially Surya Namaskar
greatly tone up diaphragm and also increase the flow of
lymph.
74. LYMPH MOVEMENT
During Pranayama inhalation, the diaphragm goes
down and the lymph is forced upwards into subclavian
vein and then it becomes a part of blood.
During Pranayama exhalation the lymph reservoir fills
up. Kapalbhati Pranayama thus fully fills up lymph
reservoir.
Same phenomena occur during aerobic exercises but
aerobic exercises are energy spending (catabolic)
processes.
Bhastrika, Kapal Bhati and Anulom Vilom are the most
effective Pranayama breathing methods that build up
body’s immune system through optimum circulation of
lymph.
75. IMPORTANT PRANAYAMS FOR
ERADICATION OF CANCER
Soft bahya Pranayama for as many times as possible.
Slow rhythm (5-6 breaths per minute Bhastrika) for 7-10 minutes.
Kapal Bhati at 40-60 breaths per minute for about 20 minutes. This
need not be in a single stretch depending upon tolerance level of
the individual.
Anulom-Vilom (5-6 breaths per minute) for about 25-30 minutes.
Bhramari for about 5 minutes.
Shavasana for about 10 minutes.
Ayurvedic medicines & Panchakarma.
Diet should be such that it results in alkaline body tissue.
The best results can be obtained by regular consumption
of banana, red potato with skin (roasted), juice of lauki
(bottle gourd)
76. AHAR - DIET
The diet should be such that body tissue remains alkaline. This is
required for preventing majority of diseases including cancer.
Vegetarian diet is most preferred.
Body requires minerals such as potassium, calcium, magnesium,
selenium, zinc. These greatly help in making cell environment
alkaline.
Body requires vitamin b17 (considered as nature’s own
chemotherapy). These are available in bitter almonds, flaxseed,
maize, millet, seeds of apple and also seeds contained in apricot
kernels.
Potato with skin has great nutritional as well as medicinal value. It
is very rich in minerals especially potassium and also very high
content of anti-oxidant alpha lipoic acid. Sadly world over potato is
heavily misused.
Banana is yet another source of potassium
77. DO FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT CANCER IS
TOTALLY ERADICABLE BY PRANAYAM
AND AURVEDIC TREATMENT (IF
NECESSARY)
NO SURGERY OR CHEMOTHERAPY
WILL EVER BE REQUIRED.
