GBP Direct Announces Acquisition Of Baton Rouge Office Supply
Company.
Becomes one of the largest independent office supply companies on the Gulf Coast
Kenner, LA, January1, 2015: GBP Direct, a local woman owned office
supply company, officially announced the purchase of Office Direct, a
thirty five year old office supply company headquartered in Baker, LA. The
combined companies will create one of the largest independent office
supply companies in Louisiana and along the Gulf Coast. With an item
count exceeding 200,000 items, the office supply category now includes
an array of product groups that extend well beyond pens and paper clips. Today’s largest office supply
companies offer furniture, break room and janitorial supplies, imaging supplies, promotional items, and
health and safety products. In terms of nationwide total sales volume the industry is now estimated at19
billion dollars.
“Acquiring Office Direct allows us to more easily expand our service in an area that was previously
geographically challenging,” said company president Randy Durbin. “The employees at Office Direct are
knowledgeable and very experienced. They have created wonderful relationships with some outstanding
companies and of equal importance, their culture matched ours. This actually made the decision to
purchase quite easy,” added Durbin.
The national office supply companies entered the market place full force in the early 90’s. The initial wave
forced many smaller long established companies out of business. “The companies that prepared correctly
and invested in technology were able to survive. Over the last five years or so there has been a huge
resurgence on the independent side as more and more companies realize that they were being
underserved by the national chains. At a time when the national chains have reduced their physical
presence, acquiring Office Direct further solidifies our commitment to the community,” said Durbin.
