On January 8, 1918, US President Woodrow Wilson gave a speech to Congress outlining 14 points for peace after World War I. Points 10 and 11 directly addressed Romania, supporting national self-determination and the union of Romania with Transylvania, Bessarabia, and Dobrogea. Wilson's speech and the 14 points were fundamental in allowing Romania to achieve its national ideal of uniting these regions in 1918 to form Greater Romania.
