A guide to in-depth investor pitches by Elevate VenturesKelly Schwedland
I've sat through hundreds of investment presentations and listen to comments during and afterwards. We at Elevate also sat alongside Angel groups and had feedback from VC groups that have met with our companies. I'm not sure there can ever be a perfect pitch as different groups have a specific thesis. But we decided to take the learnings from those meetings and make sure that companies can articulate all of the key items that investors are looking for especially in an in-person presentation. (A little more in depth that the traditional pitch used to get investors interested in large group/ public formats)

This document summarizes investment trends in 2015, including the rise of unicorns (private companies valued over $1 billion), fewer companies pursuing IPOs and instead raising large private rounds, startups disrupting banking, the decreasing costs to build software startups, and immigrant entrepreneurs driving innovation. It also lists the top 10 tech hubs and emerging areas like virtual reality, the Internet of Things, and esports. The document concludes by discussing the rise of corporate venture capital investment and an investor training program from 500 Startups.
This document discusses trends in technology and business. It notes that every day in America 1,100 new businesses are formed while 1,300 fail. It profiles many successful entrepreneurs who faced early failures and rejections, including Thomas Edison, FedEx founder Fred Smith, Starbucks founder Howard Schultz, and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerburg. It shows graphs of high growth stocks like Apple, Netflix, and Priceline from 2005-2015. It discusses the power of compound growth and examples like buying Manhattan for $24 in 1626. It also profiles declines in the cost of computing, storage, and genome sequencing driven by trends like Moore's Law and Swanson's Effect.
