The document summarizes the oppressive conditions faced by women in Afghanistan, including mandatory wearing of the burka which severely restricts vision and mobility. It discusses how the burka was introduced and enforced by the Taliban to control women. Under Taliban rule, women were forbidden from education, employment, and access to healthcare. They lived with constant threats of punishment for any violations of the strict rules. Despite the overthrow of the Taliban, conditions for many Afghan women remain dire, with high rates of domestic violence, forced marriage, and maternal mortality.

This document analyzes trends in U.S. government commercial card use from 2000-2013. It finds that while card use and associated savings rose significantly in the early 2000s due to efficiency gains, card use and spending has declined in recent years. This is possibly due to increased oversight and accountability measures dampening the programs. Military card use, in particular, has fallen further than civilian programs. The conclusion suggests that commercial cards can benefit government operations if the trade-off between efficiency and control is properly understood and communicated.

This document discusses modern slavery and forced labor. It notes that while slavery was abolished in 1833, human trafficking and forced labor continue today through practices like debt bondage, sexual exploitation, and the removal of body parts. Victims are often threatened with violence and "dumped or killed" when no longer useful. International conventions have aimed to abolish slavery, but many countries still lack laws or political will to enforce them. Reducing demand and vulnerability as well as increasing awareness and assistance to authorities are recommended to help address this ongoing global human rights issue.
