LIECTENSTEIN HANS ADAM II 24 It may seem odd to hear that the melody of the national anthem of Liechtenstein, a central European kingdom with no ties to Great Britian at all in its history, would be exactly the same as the familiar God Save the Queen, but, as the Liechtenstein anthem, it is entitled "Oben am jungenRhein". This link might be explained by its close ties to neighbouring Switzerland, who has also used the melody as its anthem in its past (as well as nearby Prussia, and later Germany, at the time). (The fact that Liechtenstein shares a well-known tune with another nation has led to a few awkward situations of amateur composers approaching Liechtenstein officials with proposals for a new anthem, convinced that one is needed.)
