The Manchester Guild  Proof that freedom of self expression helps academic performance rather than hindering it
Manchester Craftsmen's guild   		Nationally recognized after-school arts program for high school students has been designed to educate and inspire any young person who has an interest in the arts and creative self-expression.
 The MCG has many and varied studio courses and workshops which offer great opportunities for skill development, critical thinking, experiential learning and preparation for careers and higher education. 
History In 1968, Pittsburgh was a city racially divided and economically distressed. Bill Strickland established Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild to help combat the economic and social devastation experienced by the residents of his predominantly African-American North Side neighborhood. What began as a few pottery wheels and a kiln in a garage, became a 62,000 square foot arts and career training center after a $6.5 million capital campaign

MCG's after-school program is offered at no cost to Pittsburgh Public School students.  Their mission…to educate and inspire urban youth through the arts
The facts… Since the program began juvenile crime has dropped 27 percentand the rate of repeat criminal behavior for youth 11-12 has dropped 67 percent 80 percent of the participants go on to college compared with only 20 percent of community’s nonparticipating youth
