Leonardo da Vinci invented several early machines including an alarm clock to prevent oversleeping, a snorkel and life preserver by realizing air is less dense than water, and a mechanical lion filled with flowers to impress a king. He also designed early concepts for helicopters and airplanes centuries before powered flight was achieved.
