GO Topeka provided an update to the SmartPort Board of Directors on economic development efforts in Topeka/Shawnee County. There were four business announcements in 2009 bringing $350 million in investments, 350 new jobs, and retaining 1,575 existing jobs paying an average of $49,949. A new business park called Central Crossing Commerce Park was announced, featuring over 1,000 acres of light and heavy industrial land with rail access in two phases. Plans also included a Science and Innovation Park concept to drive future economic growth in the region.
