How do I use a mini belt grinder?
• Choose the right belt for the job. Different belts are designed for different
materials and applications.
• Adjust the tracking of the belt to ensure it is running straight and true.
• Turn on the machine and let it come up to speed.
• Hold the work piece firmly against the belt and move it back and forth to grind
or sand it down.
• Use light pressure at first and gradually increase it as needed.
• Keep your fingers and other body parts away from the moving belt.
• Turn off the machine when you are finished.
.
Safety Precautions when using a mini belt grinder
14
Department of Mechanical Engineering, SJBIT
 Wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including eye and hearing
protection, leather gloves, natural fiber clothing, an apron, and respiratory
protection as needed.
 Do not wear loose-fitting clothing or have hanging strings.
 Maintain good footing, balance, and work position. Do not carry the grinder
with your finger on the switch.
 Check the condition of the machine before use. Look for broken parts or signs
of wear.
 Lock the safety hood in place and give it a tug to check its placement.
 Remove all combustible materials near the work area to avoid the risk of fire.
ABRASIVE BELT INFORMATION
Abrasive belts consist of abrasive grains applied to a backing made of
cloth, film, foam and sponge, paper, or other material. Abrasive belts are mounted on
rotating wheels or pulleys and are used in applications such as surface finishing,
sanding, and grinding. There are three categories of abrasive belts: Narrow belts for
bench sanders or back stand grinders, portable or file belts for use on small hand
held power tools, and wide belts for sanding or finishing large flat surfaces and for
abrasive planning or lumber dimensioning.

CONCLUSION
Belt grinders are used for grinding and shaping metal and wood parts. They have
a wide variety of applications, like knife making and wood working. Belt grinders
can be used for both coarse and fine grinding, and they can also be used for deburring
and polishing.
The project carried out by us made an impressing task in the field of hand crafts,
small scale industries and automobile maintenance shops. It is very useful for the
workers work in the lathe and small scale industries. The project has made in less cost
so that it can be available for everyone. Project has been designed to perform the
entire requirement task at the shortest time available. This machine has been mainly
developed for grinding the specimen to get a good surface finish and edge cuttings. In
this machine we have using the motor source of DC current operated device. This
equipment have good efficiency compared to other, so that good finishing is obtained.
