INTRODUCTION
A Hospital Management System (HMS) is a software designed to help hospitals and
clinics manage their work easily and efficiently. It keeps all records related to patients,
doctors, staff, appointments, medical reports, billing, and medicines in a digital format.
In many hospitals, things are still done using paper files and manual entries, which can
lead to mistakes, delays, and missing information. A Hospital Management System solves
this problem by storing everything on a computer, making it faster and safer to access
data.
This system helps doctors quickly see a patient’s full history, book appointments, and give
better treatment. It also supports staff in managing daily tasks like billing, generating
reports, and organizing hospital resources.
Using such a system saves time, reduces human errors, and improves communication
between different departments of the hospital — leading to better and smoother

NEED OF PROJECT
Hospitals deal with many patients every day. There are lots of
things to manage like patient details, doctor appointments, bills,
reports, medicines, and more. Doing all this work using pen and
paper is very slow and can cause mistakes.
Sometimes, it is hard to find old patient records or give the
correct treatment on time. Also, hospital staff spend a lot of time
writing things down instead of helping patients.
That’s why a Hospital Management System (HMS) is needed. It
helps make all hospital work faster, safer, and more organized.
Everything is stored on the computer — so it is easy to check,
update, and manage.

MODULES OF THE SYSTEM
The Hospital Management System is made up of different modules. Each module has its
own job and helps in managing a specific part of the hospital.
1. Admin Module:
• Manages all parts of the system (users, doctors, patients, appointments and
medicines).
• Can add, update, or delete records.
• Can view reports like appointments per day, and medicine stock.
2. Doctor Module:
• Doctor can log in using their credentials.
• Can see their scheduled appointments.
• Can check medical history of assigned patients.
• Can update diagnosis, prescribe medicines, and enter treatment notes.

3. Patient Module:
• Patients can register and log in.
• Can book an appointment with a doctor.
• Can view past reports, bills, and appointment history.

• Allows patients to book appointments .
• Admin and doctors can manage or cancel appointments.

5. Medicine Management Module:
• Admin can add, update, or remove medicine records.
• Tracks stock quantity and expiry dates.
• Helps ensure availability of medicines when needed.

7. Database Management Module
• This module is the backbone of the system, storing all the important data
securely.
• All data such as user login details, patient records, doctor information,
appointments, billing, and medicine inventory is stored in a MySQL database.
• Tables are created for each entity (e.g., patients, doctors, appointments, bills,
medicines, users).
• Data is linked using unique IDs (primary and foreign keys), ensuring consistency
and easy access.
• The database is optimized for fast data retrieval, updating, and deletion.
• Backups can be taken to prevent data loss, and security rules ensure only
authorized users can access or modify the data.
