Formal
Definition
Computer Graphics is generally concerned
with all aspects of using a computer to
generate images.
• Computer graphics: commonly understood to
mean the creation, storage and manipulation
of models and images
• Interactive Computer Graphics: user controls
contents, structure, and appearance of
objects and their displayed images via rapid
visual feedback
Basic Elements of CG
Many computer graphicsapplicationsinvolve:
• Modelling
- Choice of representation
• Rendering
- geometry, visibility
- mapping from‘real world’to ‘image space’
-Simulation of interactionof light with objects
Reflection, transmission, emission, refraction, diffraction and
interference.
• Animation
• Interaction

The entertainmentindustry plays many important roles in
the field of computergraphics.
• Leaders in quality and artistry
• Not slaves to conceptualpurity
• Big budgets and tight schedules
• Constantreminder that there is moreto CG than
technology.
