Marc Isambard Brunel was a French civil engineer born in England in 1806 who was notable for his work on projects including the Great Western Railway and Clifton Suspension Bridge. He was educated in France and married Mary Elizabeth Horsley, with whom he had three children. Brunel made significant contributions to civil engineering as a structural engineer and member of the Institution of Civil Engineers in Britain.
