What is a Catechist?
 I > Is not a “ job” or a task but to “ be “ a catechist
is
a vocation of service in the church.
A Gift from the Lord.
> Walks from and with Christ not from his person.
Jesus is at the center of our life…. To give
witness
To speak, and to preach.
A person who enjoy the company
of children and youth.
A person who is willing to
commit to spend time sharing
his faith she/ he received.
A person who wants to learn the
teaching of God and His words.
The Role of the Catechist
1. Herald of received Tradition
- The task of the church is to pass on from
generation to generation the gospel of Jesus.
2. Grounded in the Goodnews
-” the Goodnews” each must be grounded in the
Word of God as it is proclaim.
3. Storyteller of faith
- Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life
- we have his words
4. Witness to Faith
- Authentic Catholic faith is never partial or
selective. it is always universal
5. Leaven in the culture
-We teach, but we teach with
a purpose. The goal is transformation
of whole culture.
6. Proclaiming with confidence
- Catechist courageously and
lovingly proclaim the message of
Jesus by sharing the story of Jesus.
Effective Catechist
1. Know and try to master the Subject
matter
2. Know and respect the pupils.
3. Have a positive expectation for success.
4. Prepare, prepare, prepare
5. Check for understanding, learning and
application
6.Provide an active and ordered
environment
7. Keep it simple
Eight beatitudes for Catechist
1. Blessed are the Catechist who listen to the noises
of the day, especially the sounds calling for
conversion, for they possess the ears of Christ.
2. Blessed are the Catechist who see the needs
of others, especially the ones unrecognized by
others, for they possess they eye of Christ.
3. Blessed are the catechist who speak kindly,
especially to the ones without positive motivation,
for they possess the mouth of God.
4. Blessed are the catechist who gently
touch, especially the ones who feel the
sting of home- violence, for they
possess the hands of Christ.
5. Blessed are the catechist who think
prayerfully, especially fir those who
don’t know God, for they possess the
minds of minds.
6. Blessed are the catechist who show love,
especially to the ones who unlovable traits, for
they possess the heart of Christ.
7. Blessed are the catechist who walk patiently with
their studies, especially the ones struggling with
comprehension, for they possess the feet of
Christ.
8. Blessed are the catechist who perseveres in their
faith-sharing ministry, especially when their
effort seem in vain, for they possess the healing
presence of Christ and their is the Kingdom of
heaven.
