• The first conditional, or conditional of the future, refers, as its name
indicates, to conditions and circumstances that can be met in the future,
example.
• If you keep reading, you’ll see (Si sigues leyendo, verás).
• The first conditional has the following structure:
• If + subject + present simple + subject + will + verb in infinitive (without
to)
• Subject + will + verb in infinitive (without to) + if + subject + present
simple
Some examples
Si tienes prisa, ya me encargo yo. If you’re in a hurry, I’ll take care of it.
Si aprueba (él) el examen, le subirán el sueldo. If he passes the exam, he’ll get a raise.
Nos dejarán entrar si llevamos corbata. They’ll let us in if we wear a tie.
No sabrás a qué sabe si no lo pruebas.
You won’t know what it tastes like if you don’t try
it.
Si no lo intento, creerán que soy un gallina. If I don’t try, they’ll think I’m a chicken.
Si no sale bien la foto, la borraremos.
If the picture doesn’t come out right, we’ll
delete it.
Common error
there are those who put if and will (and above without contracting!) In the same
sentence of the conditional.
