2. DANCING DEVILS OF CORPUS CHRISTI
The Dancing Devils of Corpus Christi are a
tradition of the central coast of Venezuela that is
celebrated in honor of Corpus Christi on the ninth
Thursday after Holy Thursday or the day of the
Blessed Sacrament. Its origin dates back more than
400 years, when elements of the Catholic tradition
join popular beliefs and African roots. Given its
richness and significance, which reflects the identity
and cultural diversity of Venezuela, this syncretic
manifestation -represented by 11 brotherhoods- was
declared by UNESCO as Intangible Heritage of
Humanity in 2012.
3. THE PARRANDA OF SAN PEDRO DE
GUARENAS AND GUATIRE
Every June 29, the Parranda of San
Pedro de Guarenas and Guatire, populations of
Miranda State, a popular and religious festival
that has been declared by UNESCO as
Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The
documentation that registers this festivity
locates it in the XIX century, nevertheless the
oral tradition marks the colonial epoch as its
origin, when the slave Maria Ignacia grateful
