My ancestors on both sides came from India and China in the 17th/20th centuries as indentured laborers or in search of jobs. They had little education but worked hard as planters, plowmen, bread sellers to provide for their large families of 7-13 children. The grandparents on both sides prioritized education, working to send all their children to primary school and some to secondary/university. This enabled my parents' generation to pursue further education and careers. My father worked from a young age in farms and fishing before starting his own successful business with my mother's support. They had 4 children and emphasized education to enable future opportunities.
