1) The study assessed diaphragmatic thickness and excursion measured by ultrasound as predictors of successful weaning and extubation in 50 mechanically ventilated patients.
2) Patients with successful weaning and extubation had significantly higher diaphragmatic thickness, thickening fraction, and excursion compared to those who failed trials.
3) Cut-off values for predicting success were a thickening fraction >24%, tidal excursion >1.1cm, and deep excursion >3cm. Diaphragmatic ultrasound was found to effectively predict weaning outcomes.
