In the 1972 Munich Olympics, eight members of the terrorist group Black September entered the Olympic Village at night and killed eleven Israeli athletes and officials. Black September was a Palestinian terrorist organization seeking retaliation for Israel's victory in the 1948 Arab-Israeli war. The terrorists entered wearing sportswear carrying guns in bags and killed their victims in their rooms. After a standoff, the terrorists and hostages were killed in a failed rescue attempt at the airport. The Olympic Games were suspended for five days but then continued as the terrorists wanted to disrupt the international event.
