4. Present
progressive/continuous use
• To talk about something that is in progress at
the moment, now. It may start at the past,
continuing at the present and will probably end at
the same point at the moment.
Eg: I am giving the material to my students.
The students is paying attention to my
explanation.

Inggris course this semester

5. Clues to identify Present Simple
• The use of words such as:
Often, always, never, usually, seldom, every weekend/day/Sunday etc.
Eg: Jane always do the college assignment on time.
I clean my room every Sunday.
• The use of tobe (is,am,are):
Eg: Blacky is the name of my cat.
Jo and Kane are brothers.
• The use of Verb1 for first and second singular and plural and Verb1+s/es
for third singular person
Eg: She goes to market every Sunday.
I like playing badminton.

6. Clues to identify Present
Progressive
• The use of tobe (is,am,are) before verb-ing:
Eg: My lecturer is explaining the lesson right now.
Anna and patricia are talking at the moment.
• The use of words such as:
at the moment, now, right now, today, etc.
Eg: I am studying English now.
She is working today along.

• To talk about activity or situation began and ended
at the particular time in the past (finished actions).
Eg: Marry worked at home last year.

18. Clues to identify Past Simple
• The use of tobe (was,were):
Eg: Blacky was the name of my cat two years ago.
They were the football players team in 1990.
• The use of Verb 2
Eg: She went to market last Friday.
I used to play badminton at age 18, but not today anymore.

• To describe something that was in progress at a
certain moment in the past.
Eg: I was doing my college assignment at 8 P.M.
yesterday.
Marry and Anna were going to market when
their friends are visiting their house.

20. Clues to identify Past
Progressive
• The use of tobe (was,were) before verb-ing:
Eg: My lecturer was explaining the lesson at 9 A.M
yesterday.
Anna and patricia were talking when the clock
rang last night.
