This newsletter from Our Saviour Preschool provides updates on activities from the previous month and upcoming events. It discusses establishing routines in the first few weeks of preschool, serving one another as Christ serves us, and learning through play, songs, and activities focused on shapes, letters, life cycles and cooking. It reminds families of field trips, book orders, tuition due dates, and requests donations of pumpkins. Upcoming events include visiting a fire station and celebrating the harvest instead of Halloween in the classroom.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

Dear Friends,
I wanted to say a special Thank-You to all of you who are helping us with our September/October Fundraiser. We know how special your time is and we appreciate you taking the time to help us by supporting our school. Please note that our Fundraiser forms and money will be due by October 8th.
In our first few weeks of preschool we worked on getting our schedules and routines established. They are doing an excellent job of following direction, taking ownership of the classroom, including cleaning up and helping others when needed. We are repeatedly discussing what it means to be a servant to one another and how we can serve as Christ continually serves us. Ask your children who they served today and discuss with them how they can serve your family: picking up toys, setting the table, making their beds, etc… In my experience children enjoy serving, let them know your needs.

SNACK HELPERS
Thank you to all of you who have so generously provided snacks for our 3K and 4K programs. We appreciate your efforts in providing healthy snacks. It is important that as parents and teachers we develop healthy eating habits while they are young. Please be aware that we have 2 students in our 4K who are Peanuts and Tree allergic to Nuts. When you send in items from home please make sure store bought items have the nutrition label attached and homemade items include the recipe. We want to keep our environment safe for all students.
JESUS TIME
We have had a great time singing new songs, learning about the beauty in God’s creation, as well as discussing how God created the heavens and the earth for us to enjoy, Noah’s faithfulness and willingness to serve as God used him to do great things while blessing his family. “He appointed them to be saved in keeping with His purpose.” Romans 8:28
Red Day: October 9-10th as we head to Hillside Orchard in Casco. Please wear something red. Also, make sure to dress your child in layers as the fall weather starts to show its head.

celebrate the beauty of the Harvest. As we move towards Halloween, we will not be wearing costumes or celebrating Halloween in our classroom. Instead, we will celebrate the beauty and bounty of the Harvest. Please save all costumes for family celebrations. We observe this holiday and all holidays from a Christian perspective. Thank you for your understanding and support.
WHAT ARE WE LEARNING?
We have learned quite a few songs and finger plays so far; I hope your child is sharing those with you. We will be working with shapes and learning about the life cycles of apples and pumpkins. We will be learning through finger plays, songs, visual aides and art activities. As you are driving around town or relaxing in your home, ask your child to point out shapes in their environments as we continually talk about them in class.
In 4k we are working with the letters: /m/ /s/ /a/ /t/ /r/ and Long vowel e. We are creating a word wall for each letter in the hallway as we work on them in our journals each day and writing activities. We hope your child is talking about their sounds at home.
We are also working on writing our names. If you need help or have questions please ask.

Have you ever thought about what heaven will be like? I am sure that if you are anything like me,
you have tried to
picture heaven.
But have you ever
thought about what
Heaven is going to smell like? Take some time, whether it’s in the car, on a walk, or during your prayer time, and think about this question. Ask your children what their heaven will smell like, you might be surprised at the answers.
