Editor's Notes

  1. The group that I was working with to complete the Prelim task was; Chloe and Deni. I found managing the tasks between ourselves in order to complete the task was fairly easy as we all communicated and got along with one another. I felt that during the preparation stage onto getting organised to complete the task I felt that we were organised as we took one another into consideration. For example the correct time to film as one of the group members could not make the a certain date, therefore we had to alternate around this. This showed good communication skills. As we all had an equal share of the management I felt that we all took charge at one point during the task. I do feel that a member of the group, this including myself could have perhaps taken a bit more charge of the role of management at some points. At times during the task the issues that came with time management was getting each and every one of the shots to the way we wanted in the certain amount of time from 2.45pm-4.00pm. Our group managed to deal with this by looking back at the storyboard to enable us to work at a quick pace because we were able to know what we are doing. We also had Deni as our “cameraman”. I felt that she did a very good job of getting the shots perfect so wee can differentiate from one shot to another. The problems of which we came up against while completing the task was to angle the camera properly and to always remember to check the spirit level, so that the camera was level and gave a accurate and straight shot. We overcame this by asking a member of staff on their opinion and then they therefore giving us feedback and advise on how we could do this. With the spirit level we overcame this by checking the spirit level regularly to ensure that it is centre, making sure that the camera is balanced. The strengths of this task is that I was able to work with people who I do not really talk to, this was refreshing as I got to know how they worked and what each person of the group excelled in. a weakness of this is the amount of given time in which we were able to complete the task in. During this task I feel that I would make sure that I am positive with the shots that I would like to use from the storyboard rather than being indecisive about what shots to use so I have a clear and accurate indication.
  2. To plan our sequence in order for it to be put into action for filming, this was planned out as we used a storyboard to illustrate where each shot was going to be in a chronological order. This enabled our group to be organised, as without the storyboard our guidance without it I feel that we would have found the sequences unclear and problematic, even know we had an idea of what to include as we drew up the storyboard. Planning our sequence enabled our group to vary the usage of shots that were included in the sequence. This included an over the shoulder shot, two shot, medium shot, close up and pan. In order for our sequence to run smoothly all of the elements would be included.
  3. In order to complete the task the technology that we used was a Canon HD camera and a computer editing software called; Adobe Premiere. The Canon HD camera was used to film the Prelim Task ensuring that we got the right angles and did everything correctly. Using Adobe Premiere was the way in which we were able to edit our sequence to make it flow and to cut out any extra bits that weren’t needed and that weren’t useful in order to make the sequence successful. Setting up the camera was a major factor that involved the group to use it. The level that would best suitable for certain shots and the spirit level. Learning about the different shots and what would be suitable in the sequence. Apart of the Canon HD camera, we used a tripod. Using a tripod helped as the different camera shots
  4. The factors of which I had to take into account when planning, shooting and editing the sequence were; when planning we had to decided on the different types of shots that we wanted to use. We wanted to make our sequence different as the different shots that we used to vary as the sequence continues. When shooting and editing we had to take into consideration the amount of space that we had to operate the camera and to fit the scene. This therefore showing us the amount of space that we need to work in and whether to alter the shots and how far away the camera was to the group members who were in the scene. When editing I had to take into account that we all had to share the role of editing and not just one group member was doing all the work. This would be unfair. Another factor that we would have to take into account was how much needed cutting from each individual scene and how much we of the scene we needed in order for sequence to be up to a high standard.
  5. I felt that the sequence was very successful as I feel that how the shots were edited and put into the sequence. I also feel that each individual member put or all into producing a very good sequence as the teamwork that we had from the beginning defiantly reflected in the work that we produced as a team. The results show for itself that we were organised and knew what we wanted and had achieved this by doing so. Teamwork was the main key thing that we had and we worked well as a team. During the task I feel that I would improve the amount of time that we had to film as I didn’t feel to get the best results we did not have enough time to achieve this. I also feel that we could improve our time management working at a faster pace to ensure we could get everything done, without rushing towards the end. In hindsight I do believe my group and I did a good job of our sequence.
  6. From completing the Prelim task I have learnt I learnt the different types of shots and the positioning of the camera, in certain situations. I felt that working in a group our time management skills were good as we kept an eye on the clock ensuring that enough time was left at the end to go over any uncertainties that we felt had occurred during filming. As I felt that we worked well as a group I think that showed through the work that we produced. As we started to plan out the different shots from the story board working as a team we fed off each other's ideas, and improving, discussing what will work best for the sequence and what shot we should place in what exact point and what shot would be suitable, when it will come to the editing process. Working in a group made me consider other peoples opinions and seeing what ideas they have rather than my own opinion and relying on it to be correct. When learning about how to set up a camera as we had learnt about this during a previous task, I found that setting up the camera was ok, at one or two points I had difficulty but we overcame this obstacle and continued our work in order to complete the task which had been set. I believe at the beginning our organisation skills were good due to having a story board but as we continued with the task this deteriorated as we used the story board for guidance yet altering the different shots as we progressed while filming.
  7. There were a lot of things that I learnt during my editing process, the positioning of the camera, the right angle of which to take the shot in order to make the sequence. The software that we used to edit our sequence was Adobe Premiere in order for this to happen. During the editing process I learnt how to cut bits of the sequence that either was not necessary or did not fit into the sequences of how I would have liked to make our sequence suitable and putting the different shots for our work to flow freely. To complete the editing task the class as a whole was given a whole lesson – 1 hour and half of another hour – 30minutes. Additional time outside the classroom was offered to complete the editing task if some students did not feel confident that they would complete the task in lesson time. I feel the strengths of the editing process was each individual group member took a role in editing a scene for this to come together. I feel that a weaknesses that was put into place was the amount of time in which we had to complete the editing task, as we were novices and were slow at first, continuing to the end we eventually knew what we were supposed to do and got into the task well. Next time to be even more successful I would plan out my time specifically and make a time sheet to follow along o we knew that we were up to date and follow this effectively .
