This slide is about the Preah Vihear temple case which is an ancient temple. Because of the value of the temple there was conflict over the sovereignty of the temple and its surrounding areas more than a century between Cambodia and Thialand.

3. Preah Vihear temple one of the most
famous temple that stituated on a
promontory of the Dangrek Mountains
between Cambodia’s Preah Vihear
Province and Thailand’s north eastern Si
Sa Ket Province.
 Constructed in 9th century and completed in early 12th
byCambodian king, Suryavarman II.

4.  Conflict between Cambodia and Thailand more than a century on
sovereignty over the temple and it surrounding areas.

5.  The court found that the temple was in Cambodian territory and under
Cambodian sovereignty by nine votes to three. The court ordered Thailand
to withdraw any forces, or personnel that stationed by her at the temple or
its area on Cambodian territory.
 The court also ordered Thailand to restore to Cambodia anything they
removed such as sculptures, stelae, fragment of monuments, sand stone
model and ancient potter from the temple while they occupied in 1954 by
seven votes to five.
 Cambodia won the case.

6.  The Preah Vihear temple listed to the World Heritage by the World
Heritage Committee of UNESCO on 7 July 2008 due to the issue of
 territory,
 the population live there,
 and the set of monument found.

7.  The reason that made Cambodia to request to the ICJ for
interpretation because the 1962 decision upset Thailand and the
troops of both sides was built up in the area. Soldiers exchanged
fire across the disputed border in April 2009, and in Feb 2011, there
was serious fighting which killed people on several days.
 By this time Cambodia took the case to UN Security Council that
referred to regional bloc ASEAN led mediation, but nothing could
do to prevent further fighting and it occurred again in April.

8.  The court interpreted that
 The first operative paragraph of the 1962 judgement,
was clear that the temple was situated in Cambodian
territory and under Cambodian sovereignty.
 The second operative paragraph described the areas
as Cambodian territory.
 The third operative paragraph described an obligation
to restore anything taken from the “area of the
temple”.

9.  The Preah Vihear temple is an ancient temple that located between
Cambodia and Thailand.
 Because of that temple there was conflict between the two countries for
more than one century.
 As the judgment of 1962 from the ICJ, the temple is in Cambodian territory
sovereignty.
 The interpretation in 2011, the vicinity around the temple also belonged to
Cambodia.
