world's second largest web-based email service after Gmail with 360 million users. There are 35,000+ Back end
servers running MS SQL Server with storage capabilities upwards of 10 PB storing user mails.
Roles and Responsibilities:
 Work as part of a team and provide 7×24 supports when required
 Installation, Administration and Maintenance of SQL Server Instances.
 Setup Test, Dev, Staging and Production Environments.
 Create Users and assign permissions based on the level of database access the user would need.
 Design database Backup and Restoration Strategy.
 Once created the database Backups, monitor those backups are being performed regularly.
 From time to time recover the databases to a specific point of time, as per the requests.
 Setup High-Availability as part Disaster Recovery Strategy for the Databases.
 Troubleshoot various problems that arise in a day-to-day work and fix the issues.
 Monitoring and Performance tuning; Physical Server Level, Database level (Database settings and options)
and query tuning.
 Documenting major changes to the SQL Servers.
 Resolving any orphan users after upgrading  migrating the databases.

MOC - operations center incident resolution team (OCIR) provides comprehensive incident resolution for multiple
business groups across Microsoft, including business facing (such as Business online services (BOS)), consumer facing
such as (MSN .com, Hotmail, Live, Office online),Support applications such as (BLUE, Storage, Passport, MSN) and
infrastructure support (such as DNS,DHCP, Storage, AD).OCIM project is to manage all the servers, both frontend and
backend servers which hosts MSN.Com & HOTMAIL .
Role and Responsibilities:
 Part of MOC (Microsoft Operation Center) team. Roles include automated tests and manual verifications of
the wide Range of incidents escalated.
 Providing SQL Server DBA level Production support for over 5000+ servers and some
 Web Servers.
 Specifically working for the Hotmail Property, maintaining the 2nd generation backend storage layer for
Hotmail Services.
 Troubleshooting and resolving database, hardware and windows issues within the defined SLA.
 Troubleshooting specifically on Log shipping and SQL clustering issues.
 Keeping a check on the Health Queues for Hotmail services and doing a Role Flip if the Primary server in a
cluster is down.
 Provide problem characteristics as needed (including cluster and/or user impact, etc.)?Identify/recommend
a restoration plan to restore service to acceptable levels. Implement the restoration plan according to
procedures.
 Identify and fix hardware issues on backend and front end servers using Trouble Shooting Guides.
 Verifying that service has been restored to acceptable levels.
 Provide input into repair plans and Participate in post mortem.
