Campus Recreation has implemented various sustainability initiatives since 2006, such as creating a policy to only turn on basketball court lights when in use and transitioning to paperless operations. As a test bed, the student recreation center was first on campus to implement dual flush toilets, compost collection, and occupancy sensors. Challenges included gaining buy-in from the Athletics department, but hiring a student athlete as sustainability intern helped make connections. The intern created educational posters and stickers to promote sustainability efforts. Surveys found the posters effective though sometimes overwhelming, so smaller infographics were also created and used online. Every home basketball game is now a "green game
