MOUNT KILIMANJARO
 At 5,895m, Mount Kilimanjaro is the tallest free-standing mountain in
the world, so it can truly be regarded as the roof of Africa.
 Now a World Heritage site, its outstanding features are its three major
volcanic centres, Shira in the west, Mawenzi in the East and the
snowcapped Kibo in the centre.
 The forests of the surrounding national park are inhabited by elusive
elephant, leopard, buffalo, bushbuck, the endangered Abbott’s duiker,
and numerous other small antelope, primates and rodents. They are
however difficult to see due to the dense vegetation.
ROUTES
•The great Mount
Kilimanjaro is a metaphor
for the compelling beauty
of East Africa. Rising in
absolute isolation, at
5,895 m (19,336 ft.),
Mount Kilimanjaro is one
of the highest walk able
summits on the planet
MACHAME RROUTE( WHISK ROUTE)
6/8 Day Kilimanjaro Climbing
Overview
Machame route is one of the
toughest route with very
beautiful scenery starting on
the base of Kilimanjaro in
Machame gate and ending at
Mwika gate.
MARANGU ROUTE Of the Kilimanjaro routes,
The Marangu Route, affectionately known as
the "Coca-Cola route", is by far the most
popular route on Mount Kilimanjaro.
•This could partly due to the fact that it is
the least expensive route, but more so,
perhaps due to the fact that it is possible to
do the Marangu route in 5 days, thereby
getting to the summit one day earlier than
on the other routes.
•This is not always the best way due to a
shorter acclimatization period.
•The route does however offer you the
option of spending an extra acclimatization
day on the mountain. This extends the route
to a 6-day, greatly increasing your chances
of success.
MARANGU HUTS ACCOMMODATION-HUTS
 Marangu is the only route
where tourists can sleep in
huts. Hut accommodation on
this route forms one of the
main differences, compared
to the other routes.
 It offers you the relative
luxury of being able to sleep
in huts along the entire
route.The relative 'comfort' of
sleeping in huts is especially
welcome if one is climbing
Kilimanjaro in the rainy
season.
THE PEAK OF MT KILIMANJARO WITH OUR GUIDE MICHAEL
MOUNT MERU
 Mount Meru is the second highest mountain in
Tanzania after The Kilimanjaro Mountain. It is
4566m high from the sea level. It is located in
Northern Tanzania in East Africa!
 The Meru Mountain is the 9th highest peak in
Africa and the second highest mountain in
Tanzania at 4,566m above the sea Level.
 It can be climbed for fewer days Compared to
Kilimanjaro. It can range from 3 to 4 days.
MOUNT MERU
TOURISM SECTOR IN TANZANIA
 This can be divided into different areas
 The northern Circuit of tourism covering
Ngorongoro Conservation Area where Ngorongoro
crater is found.
 The Serengeti National Park,Manyara National
Park,Tarangire National Park,Arusha National
Park,Kilimanjaro National Park( Mt.Kili) and the
Mkomazi Game reserve.
 The other one is the southern circuit of tourism.
 This includes Selous Game reserve, Mikumi
NP,Udzungwa NP,Ruaha NP,Rungwa
GR,Bagamoyo,Kilwa,Mafia Island and Dar es
salaam.
 Entry Point for this circuit is Dar es salaam via
Mwalimu JK International Air Port.
 For the Northern Circuit of tourism the entry point is
Kilimanjaro International Air Port (JRO) where one is
transferred to a nearby city called Arusha where the real
adventure begins.
 Arusha City is both a commercial and a living place for
individuals of all work of life from all over the region. This
is a peaceful city which hosts the International Criminal
Court for Rwanda premises(ICTR).
 It is this city which produces Tanzanite,a blue mineral
which is available only in this place in the world.
NGORONGORO CONSERVATION AREA
 The Ngorongoro Crater, which covers more than 15 km in
diameter, covered with huge herds of zebra and antelope
and surrounded by walls over 650 meters high, is perhaps
the most famous natural reserve in Africa and since
1978, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
 Inside the Crater you can find virtually every major
African mammal and in the salt lake, which is located on
the bottom of the crater, you can see flocks of pink
flamingos wade in water in search of food.
 It is estimated that the crater occurred about two million
years ago and that it might have reached a height similar
to that of Kilimanjaro, only to fall inward and give rise to
the present structure.
 The structure of the crater is circular, with a diameter of
about 20 km. While on board, which is approximately 2300
meters, the climate is cold and often foggy inside the
caldera, the air is hot and dry and the vegetation changes
rapidly depending on the season.
 The Masai people live there with their herds even though
since 1979 can no longer cultivate the land. The Masai are
also allowed to descend into the crater to graze at sunset.
 The crater provides a protected habitat for thousands
of mammals and birds.
SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK
Serengeti national park…….
•Serengeti National Park is the oldest and the most popular nati
onal park, also a world heritage site and recently proclaimed a
7th world wide wonder.
•The Serengeti region encompasses Serengeti National Park
itself, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Maswa Game Reserve,
the Loliondo, Grumeti and Ikorongo Controlled Areas and the
Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya.
• Huge herds of wildebeest, zebras, gazelles and antelopes
migrate following the course of the seasons in search of water
and pasture. They move around the large predators: lions,
leopards, cheetahs and hyenas.
• Nowhere else in the world can you see such a concentration of wildebeest,
zebras and antelopes.
• Herbivores such as wildebeest and zebras are concentrated here for the great
annual migration that takes them to face the crossing of major rivers where
many of them end up eaten, maimed or drowned. Spend the dry season in the
western Serengeti then move east again before the rains.
• The park is also famous for the large number of lions, cheetahs and giraffes.
• The Serengeti is famed for its annual migration, when some six million hooves p
ound the open plains, as more than 200,000 zebra and 300,000 Thompson’s g
azelle join the wildebeest’s trek for fresh gazing
•
 The Serengeti is famed for its annual migration, when some
six million hooves pound the open plains,
as more than 200,000 zebra.
 300,000 Thompson’s gazelle join the wildebeest’s trek for
fresh gazing
• The Serengeti ecosystem extends beyond the
National Park to include several other conservation areas a
nd reserves, including the Maasai Mara in Kenya.
ANIMALS MIGRATION CROSSING MARA RIVER
SERENGETI MIGRATION ROUTES
MANYARA NATIONAL PARK
 This park from the main road runs through an expanse of lush jungle
where groups of hundreds of baboons laze carelessly to the side of
the road, blue monkeys roam nimbly between the ancient mahogany
trees.
 delicate tragelafi striated (forest antelopes) walk cautiously in the
shadows..
 while the bucorvi the forest trumpet noisily between the branches of
the trees. In stark contrast to the intimacy of the forest, where the
grassy floodplain, looking eastward across the alkaline lake, you can
enjoy a wonderful view of the jagged volcanic peaks that rise from
the endless Maasai Steppes.
 is the perfect initiation to the avian fauna Large
specimens of buffalo, wildebeest and zebra herds of
piling on these grassy plains, as well as giraffes, some
of which have a black color, so dark as to appear
almost black from a distance.
 Inward floodplains there is a narrow belt of acacia
forests, the preferred habitat of the legendary tree
climbing Manyara lions. Manyara a of Tanzania.
TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK

Elephants, elands,oryx, lesser kudu, rhino,
leopards, lions and cheetah. The birdlife is varied
and plentiful.
TANZANITE GAMESTONE
PRECIOUSE GEMS STONE
THE BLUE TANZANITE
 Tanzanite is a multicolor at once, a rare
gemstone only found in Tanzania, Africa.
 This very unusual "new" gemstone
discovered in 1967 has created a huge
demand worldwide.
 In the foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro in
Tanzania is the only known mining site of
tanzanite, called Mererani Hills.
 Many rumors have surfaced throughout
the years concerning other locations, but
none have been proven.
TANZANITE GERMS STONE
 The once populated area, where thousands of workers were busy extracting
quality rough tanzanite, is now pretty quiet. Not much action for an area, which
gave the world its number 1 demanded colored gem.
 There once were over 2,000 pits or holes in the ground with miners going deep
into the surface of the earth to find its deep colored treasures.
 However, with time came the lack of productivity, causing many to abandon and
leave this beautiful area. Today there are about 150 pits in the grounds with
several hundred workers.
 The Mererani Hills are divided into four blocks. Block A is currently mined out.
Block B is the only official active area. Block C is restarting some production.
Block D is where the fine quality once was very abundant. Although it is
temporarily closed due to flooding, we still occasionally receive a parcel from
Block D
GOLD MINING (SHINYANGA & MWANZA)
GOLD HISTORY IN TANZANIA
 Tanzania is the 4th largest gold producer in Africa before South Africa,
Ghana and Mali. Gold production currently stands at approximate 40T per
year while copper at 2980T and silver at 10T and Diamond Itself at
112670C.
 In total the mining sector contributes 2.8% to GDP each year but this could
rise considerably in future, with Business Monitor International (BMI)
forecasting average annual growth in the sector of 7.7% between 2011 and
2015.
 BMI also predict a doubling in value of the sector between 2010 and 2015,
from US$0.64bn to US$1.28bn.
 Minerals that have been identified in Tanzania are,
Gold, Iron ore, Nickel, Copper, Cobalt, Silver, Diamond, Tanzanite…..
GOLD MINING
Others include - Ruby, Garnet, Limestone, Soda ash, Gypsum,
Salt, Phosphate, Coal, Uranium, Gravel, Sand and Dimension
stones.
 The major pieces of legislation governing the industry today are
the 1997 Mineral Policy, 1998 Mineral Act and 2010 Mineral Act
which can be found on the website for the Parliament of
Tanzania, www.parliament.go.tz

  • 7. MOUNT KILIMANJARO  At 5,895m, Mount Kilimanjaro is the tallest free-standing mountain in the world, so it can truly be regarded as the roof of Africa.  Now a World Heritage site, its outstanding features are its three major volcanic centres, Shira in the west, Mawenzi in the East and the snowcapped Kibo in the centre.  The forests of the surrounding national park are inhabited by elusive elephant, leopard, buffalo, bushbuck, the endangered Abbott’s duiker, and numerous other small antelope, primates and rodents. They are however difficult to see due to the dense vegetation.
  • 8. ROUTES •The great Mount Kilimanjaro is a metaphor for the compelling beauty of East Africa. Rising in absolute isolation, at 5,895 m (19,336 ft.), Mount Kilimanjaro is one of the highest walk able summits on the planet
  • 9. MACHAME RROUTE( WHISK ROUTE) 6/8 Day Kilimanjaro Climbing Overview Machame route is one of the toughest route with very beautiful scenery starting on the base of Kilimanjaro in Machame gate and ending at Mwika gate.
  • 10. MARANGU ROUTE Of the Kilimanjaro routes, The Marangu Route, affectionately known as the "Coca-Cola route", is by far the most popular route on Mount Kilimanjaro. •This could partly due to the fact that it is the least expensive route, but more so, perhaps due to the fact that it is possible to do the Marangu route in 5 days, thereby getting to the summit one day earlier than on the other routes. •This is not always the best way due to a shorter acclimatization period. •The route does however offer you the option of spending an extra acclimatization day on the mountain. This extends the route to a 6-day, greatly increasing your chances of success.
  • 11. MARANGU HUTS ACCOMMODATION-HUTS  Marangu is the only route where tourists can sleep in huts. Hut accommodation on this route forms one of the main differences, compared to the other routes.  It offers you the relative luxury of being able to sleep in huts along the entire route. The relative 'comfort' of sleeping in huts is especially welcome if one is climbing Kilimanjaro in the rainy season.

  • 20. NGORONGORO CONSERVATION AREA  The Ngorongoro Crater, which covers more than 15 km in diameter, covered with huge herds of zebra and antelope and surrounded by walls over 650 meters high, is perhaps the most famous natural reserve in Africa and since 1978, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  Inside the Crater you can find virtually every major African mammal and in the salt lake, which is located on the bottom of the crater, you can see flocks of pink flamingos wade in water in search of food.  It is estimated that the crater occurred about two million years ago and that it might have reached a height similar to that of Kilimanjaro, only to fall inward and give rise to the present structure.
  • 21.  The structure of the crater is circular, with a diameter of about 20 km. While on board, which is approximately 2300 meters, the climate is cold and often foggy inside the caldera, the air is hot and dry and the vegetation changes rapidly depending on the season.  The Masai people live there with their herds even though since 1979 can no longer cultivate the land. The Masai are also allowed to descend into the crater to graze at sunset.  The crater provides a protected habitat for thousands of mammals and birds.
