The Great State of Design with CSS Grid Layout and FriendsStacy Kvernmo
For far too long we've been forced to reuse layout patterns that have worked in the past, creating a web full of sites that all look the same. Narrow timelines, browser support restrictions and lack of a true grid system have led us to create work that is "good enough".
I've spent years exploring how we can make the web a more unique space. With some of the newer CSS techniques available, we can start to make more creative designs. CSS Grid Layout is on the horizon and will play a major role in the design of our sites. Finally having a true, 2 dimensional grid will give our layouts much more flexibility and it is on us to explore the possibilities.
This talk was presented at CSS Day 2016.

Is SOA the answer to everything? Perhaps not. Web oriented architecture (WOA) or SOA + WWW + REST, takes you several steps further by filling the blanks of SOA and helping you build an end-to-end complete web application. In addition to APIs, WOA identifies user interfaces and application state as first-class components of an architecture. Most of what we build today is actually WOA, though the abbreviation might not be that popular.
This session will discuss

The changes to WOA over the last 10 years

As the pressure of Big Data collides with the reality of daily operations, many organizations are trying to solve the challenge of meeting new requirements without disrupting the flow of business. One solution focuses on the data layer itself, by combining the well known functionality of relational database technology with the scale-out capabilities of Hadoop.
Register for this episode of The Briefing Room to hear from veteran Analyst Dr. Robin Bloor as he outlines the critical components of a business-ready data layer. He’ll be briefed by John Leach and Rich Reimer of Splice Machine who will explain how their solution delivers the best of both data worlds: the trusted capabilities of relational with the infinite scalability of Hadoop. They will also discuss how Hadoop has transformed from a batch-oriented workhorse into a scale-out layer capable of supporting real-time applications and operational analytics using traditional SQL.

Presentation given at the OpenStack summit in Paris (Kilo) on Tue Nov 4th.
Last summit I had the pleasure to present a talk which encountered some success "Are enterprise ready for the OpenStack transformation?" (also published on SlideShare) . This talk is a follow up on what are the best practices that are successful in operating the transformation. We will first focus on identifying the right use cases for a generic enterprise, then define a roadmap with an organisational and a technical track, to finish with the definition what would be our success criterias for our group. This will happen as a workshop summary based on the multiple engagements eNovance has been delivering over the past 2 years.
This presentation features an "Advanced" Business Model Canvas. Building on Alexander Osterwalder's Business Model Canvas and Business Model Environment as well as Rod King's Value Chain Map. New elements are added to the Business Model Canvas while maintaining the visual structure of the original canvas.
Using the Advanced Business Model Canvas, you'll be able to carry out business model planning, analysis, design, and performance management such as in the following tools and techniques:
* Balanced Scorecard
* Strategy Map
* Value Chain Analysis
* Root-cause Analysis
* Process Analysis (as in Six Sigma)
The Advanced Business Model Canvas is envisioned as a 'one-stop tool' that facilitates 3D-Business Model Planning.

Key Takeaways:
* Key, business critical uses of Confluence
* Deployment best practices

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

Performance Level Criteria
Fail Unacceptable documentation has been handed in. Poor presentation of
(< 40%) material. Little original contribution to presented work. Significant areas
omitted or treated superficially. Basic understanding of issues in computer
systems has not been demonstrated.
PASS A report that covers the basic requirements but does not show much evidence
(40% - 59%) of reading around or synthesis of material. All major areas have been
addressed or deficiencies in one or more areas are compensated by good work
in another area.
MERIT A good report showing evidence of wide research, and shows evidence of
(60% - 69%) synthesis of information from a range of sources. Understanding of the use of
the devices and their place in the computing hierarchy is demonstrated Good
understanding of systems is demonstrated
DISTINCTION A well presented report that shows a good understanding of the development
(70% +) of the current state of systems. Insight into the future development of these
devices and areas requiring future development is presented.
Good example material is selected. High standard of presentation
