2. As Michael Jackson
is famous for being
the ‘King of Pop’
music, the record
label saw it fitting to
give this cartoon
version of the artist
a crown on his
head. This would
immediately appeal
to the fans and give
them something to
talk about (as per
the Uses and
Gratifications
Theory).
Furthermore this idea of
the artist being so well
known and loved is
enhanced by the fact
that all over the poster
there are
smaller/different
versions of himself,
possibly linking to the
idea that he is known
throughout the world in
a variety of different
forms.

3. The blue, ‘night sky’
background on the top
half of the poster
connotes the idea of
innocence and purity,
themes and ideas
which a lot of Michael
Jackson’s fans
associate him with. This
can also be seen by the
literal baby angels
placing the crown on
the artist’s head.
The titles are all
in a clear white
font with
substantial
spaces between
each letter,
making it all very
easy to read and
maintain the
information
(which of course
is the whole point
of the poster).

4. Upon looking closely
to the poster there
are several
intertextual
references to
previous famous
music videos, such
as “Thriller” for
example.
This gives the audience
something to relate to
as they will be able to
remember what
originally made the
artist so famous, along
with his various motifs
(such as the sparkly
glove).
