Theoretical Applications for Traveling
Faster Than Light

Introduction
Faster than light travel has been a human aspiration for a long
time. This is seen a myriad of times in science fiction content
such as Star Trek and Star Wars. It turns out that this fiction is
not far from reality. Through the ingenuity of human intellect
we have discovered some theories that could make faster than
light travel possible.
Hypothesis
The Alcubierre Drive has the most promise. In order for it to succeed exotic matter
has to be discovered and harnessed.

Conclusion
The Alcubierre Drive is the most feasible technology to create a ship that travels
faster than light by warping space around it. Negative matter is crucial in the process
of creating the necessary warp bubble.
The Alcubierre Drive
The Alcubierrre Drive stems from the idea that the ship itself is
not moving at the speed of light, but the space around it is. The
premise of this idea came from the Big Bang. When the universe
was created, it rapidly expanded at faster than the speed of
light, and, as far as we know, is still expanding today. Now this
presents the idea that space-time can move faster than the
speed of light and we can harness this effect without breaking
Einstein's special relativity. The ship works in an interesting way.
The idea is to use negative energy to create a warp bubble. This
warp bubble would contract the fabric of space in front of the
ship and expand the fabric of space behind the ship. A wave is
then created that the ship rides to high speeds. Space would be
stretched in a wave that carries the ship, but the ship itself is not
actually moving, so time dilation would not apply in the way it
would if the ship was reaching a high velocity.
Mill’s Theoretical Warp Drivers
•Hypothetical Induction Sail
•Hypothetical Diametric Drive
•Hypothetical Bias Drive
Worm Holes Transportation
A wormhole would involve folding space so that the distance that one has to travel is
drastically reduced.
Exotic Matter
Exotic Matter is something with negative mass. Negative
mass acts similarly to positive mass and is treated the
same mathematically with the only difference being the
negative sign. The equations, such as and
F=-Gmm/r^2. When negative and positive matter are
placed near one another, there is an important reaction.
The positive matter is repelled away from the negative
matter, while the negative matter is drawn towards the
positive. They chase each other with increasing velocity
that approaches the speed of light. This applies to the
Alcubierre drive because of its effect on space. Positive
mass, like that of the ship, warps space down like a bowl,
and negative mass warps space up like a hill, therefore
creating a bubble of space.

Negative mass has the opposite effect on space time, contorting it
upward like a hill instead of downward like a bowl.

The negative mass effect creates the warp bubble that allows a ship to reach
faster than light speeds. Space is warped below the ship by positive mass and
above the ship by negative mass, creating a pocket for the ship to sit in while
space is contorted and carries the ship to its destination.

Uses of Faster Than Light
Travel
Faster than light travel will take humans
to the stars. It could take humanity to
new habitable planets, open doors to
discover new life, or simply allow us to
study our incredible universe. Faster
than light travel would open new doors
for humanity that are beyond the grasps
of even our imaginations.
