5. Rumours and grapevine are effectively managed
Reflect on each of your answers and describe your thought process. Provide any theoretical
support for your communication behavior.
1- Thoughts on B.
I have being working in senior position for the government of South Sudan and handling so
many directives or instructions from top leadership. However I noted that not every instruction
given by the leadership are right and worth perceiving them credible because somehow people
speak and communicate about something is just for their own sake or perhaps it’s just for you
to not give up in them. I can hardly trust anyone in the workplace if the workplace itself is not
fully supportive of my existence. I believe my perception is built from the impressions of each
person and also the company background.
2- Thought on Number: 2
Recognizing and acknowledging the various filters that might be in place when information is
being shared reflects a level of responsibility and empowerment. Practicing and modelling
successful communication creates a prosperous and engaged staff. I therefore believed that it's
as important as the mission of the organization to properly process and filter every
communication for the benefit of organization and the individual managers.
3- Thoughts of number 3.
Information sharing allows for innovation and efficiency, avoiding duplication and allowing
new ideas to emerge. By empowering employees to make the knowledge they have available
to others and make the content they create easy to find later, everyone benefits. I believe an
open space where people can communicate and speak about both work and each other’s
performance in our place has had a tremendous effect in reducing inefficiency. (Gerald

4- Thoughts on Number 4:
Encouraging honest and open communication takes more than just talking about it in
organization mission statement. It requires putting in place active measures that foster an open
exchange of information and ideas among employees at every level of your organisation.
Here’s how to go about encouraging open communication in order to create such an
environment.
I. Acknowledge that your employees’ views are important
The first step in opening up communication is to admit to yourself that your staff members
have a unique and yet very important viewpoint of what is going in your company and industry
as a whole.
II. Be respectful to your employees
When your employees come to you with problems or suggestions, make it clear they have your
full attention; stop what you are doing, look them straight in the eye, listen, and ask questions
about what they are saying. Don’t give employees the impression that they are not important
by not acknowledging them.
III. Listen to your employees reflectively
Encourage managers to clearly show that they have heard employees’ opinions. One way to do
this is to pause a bit before replying and perhaps repeat back to the employee what they said
instead of rapidly firing back your own opinion without any indication that you have heard or
considered their view.
5- Thoughts on Number 5:
According to Prof. Keith Davis, a well-known professor for his research on grapevine
communication, this type of communication arises from social interaction and is as varied as
people are. There is no way to eliminate or stop grapevine communication in the workplace.
However, there are ways to better understand it, control it, and eliminate the negative sides
grapevine can bring to the organization by ensuring proper employee communications via
formal communication channels.

I have being working in senior position for the government of South Sudan and handling so many directives or instructions from top leadership. However I noted that not every instruction given by the leadership are right and worth perceiving them credible because somehow people speak and communicate about something is just for their own sake or perhaps it’s just for you to not give up in them. I can hardly trust anyone in the workplace if the workplace itself is not fully supportive of my existence. I believe my perception is built from the impressions of each person and also the company background. 2- Thought on Number: 2 Recognizing and acknowledging the various filters that might be in place when information is being shared reflects a level of responsibility and empowerment.   • 3. successful communication creates a prosperous and engaged staff. I therefore believed that it's as important as the mission of the organization to properly process and filter every communication for the benefit of organization and the individual managers. 3- Thoughts of number 3. Information sharing allows for innovation and efficiency, avoiding duplication and allowing new ideas to emerge. By empowering employees to make the knowledge they have available to others and make the content they create easy to find later, everyone benefits. I believe an open space where people can communicate and speak about both work and each other’s performance in our place has had a tremendous effect in reducing inefficiency. (Gerald Ainomugisha) 4- Thoughts on Number 4: Encouraging honest and open communication takes more than just talking about it in organization mission statement. It requires putting in place active measures that foster an open exchange of information and ideas among employees at every level of your organisation. Here’s how to go about encouraging open communication in order to create such an environment. I. Acknowledge that your employees’ views are important The first step in opening up communication is to admit to yourself that your staff members have a unique and yet very important viewpoint of what is going in your company and industry as a whole. II. Be respectful to your employees When your employees come to you with problems or suggestions, make it clear they have your full attention; stop what you are doing, look them straight in the eye, listen, and ask questions
  • 4. about what they are saying. Don’t give employees the impression that they are not important by not acknowledging them. III. Listen to your employees reflectively Encourage managers to clearly show that they have heard employees’ opinions. One way to do this is to pause a bit before replying and perhaps repeat back to the employee what they said instead of rapidly firing back your own opinion without any indication that you have heard or considered their view. 5- Thoughts on Number 5: According to Prof. Keith Davis, a well-known professor for his research on grapevine communication, this type of communication arises from social interaction and is as varied as people are. There is no way to eliminate or stop grapevine communication in the workplace. However, there are ways to better understand it, control it, and eliminate the negative sides grapevine can bring to the organization by ensuring proper employee communications via formal communication channels.
