Ferdinand Porsche was a brilliant automotive engineer born in 1875 who founded his own engineering consulting company. He succeeded in associating with major German automobile manufacturers where he designed some of the most technically significant cars in history. This included helping develop revered Mercedes-Benz models and mid-engine cars for Auto Union that dominated racing. He is most known for designing the Volkswagen Beetle for the German government in the 1930s. After World War 2, the Porsche company began creating vehicles bearing its own name and became a renowned global marque known for outstanding engineering and design contributions over the decades.
