CAMERAWORK - SHOTS
CAMERAWORK – ANALYSIS
The first shot is the slow zoom of the Private jet , I have included this as I want to
show just how Bruno mars is trying to show off straight away that he has money
and wants people to know he lives a luxurious lifestyle. This is stereotypical of the
pop music videos as we normally see artists showing off expensive things to the
audience.
The camera seems to shake on the beat of the song and the camera always
turns to the side when they same a certain verse. This is effective as it shows he
is trying to get a powerful message across or he is trying to assert his money and
riches to the audiences and show off.
There is a birds eye shot on the car driving through the lass Vegas strip. This
is effective as it links to the mise en scene by showing the setting but also
shows us the audience that he is in one of the most expensive places in the
world. Adding to the theme of money and riches.
EDITING – SHOTS
EDITING – ANALYSIS
In the first shot we see a sign for a casino , the shot is in reverse , this is a good
editing technique as it is going against the speed and continuation of the song.
It is well placed is happens very quickly and is put in there just to make the
audience think about it. The director of this music video is the same one that
directed Mars's uptown funk , and a lot of the same editing and filming
techniques are being used in this. Making me think they are trying to go for the
same style to get the mass popularity back onto this song and it worked.
Racking in a total of 700 million views to this day it is one of Bruno Mars's most
popular songs.
In the second shot a similar technique is used it is a slow down and speed up
technique , in the first shot Bruno is coming at the camera in slow motion , the
null of a sudden he is speeding up away faster than normal. This is a clever
editing technique as it keeps the audience on their toes. By doing this it makes
Bruno look cooler and I believe that is what he is going for in this music video.
MISE EN SCENE – SHOTS
MISE EN SCENE – ANALYSIS
Costume is used very well in this music video as it helps them get it across
the message of them being cool and having all the money. It also helps them
look cool which is another theme that Bruno goes for not only in this video but
in pretty much all of his music videos. It is conventional of pop as it he is
trying to show his trendy clothes and money , a theme shown a lot in pop
music videos.
Setting is also used well in this music video as it shows where they are and
what they are doing. There are only two or three places they are seen in
the video , these are the private jet , the party or the casino/strip. All these
places would be seen to be as cool or places rich people would be. Once
again backing up my point of him trying to get across he is rich and wants
to spend his money.
