However, some pop stars tell stories within their songs and dress accordingly e.g. Taylor Swift dressed as a princess in a video for a song about Romeo and Juliet. Furthermore Pop videos promote a lot of products (product placement) in order to gain more financial backing, therefore this affects what the popstars wear e.g. certain clothing brands. To conclude, popstars wear a lot of clothing in their videos and there is not one specific conformity.
- 3. LOCATIONS • Pop videos tend to take place in nice, warm holiday-like locations which the audience would be envious of. Pop videos use visually appealing locations. However, some videos use more relatable locations to the audience in order to engage with the audience more. The main factor in locations of pop videos is making them eye-catching and memorable.
- 4. COLOURS • The Pop genre is most known for colourful videos. The colours used are often bright and vibrant to match the upbeat feeling of the songs. However, more serious songs tend to have a darker colour scheme.
- 5. THEMES • The most popular them in Pop music is love. Usually Pop songs feature an artist expressing their feelings towards somebody they love, whether they be positive or negative. Often in the video, the artist sings into the camera; as if they are singing directly to the person the lyrics were about. This adds drama to the video.
- 6. REPRESENTATIONS • The performers of the Pop genre often represent themselves as fun and eccentric people without a care in the world. However, this representation can be altered depending on whether the song is happy or not. If the song has a negative connotation then the artist will be represented as destroyed and like they’ve given up so that the audience can empathise with them.
- 7. PROPS • Props used within Pop videos are usually advertisements to the audience (product placement) in order to help promote another company’s product. Products on display are usually fashion accessories or popular items such as branded shoes, selfie sticks and mobile phones.
