Vicki Garrison 2010-2011
What questions did I ask while working on the project? How is this going to work? Are we really going to go outside and bury items and then dig them back up? Did any new questions arise while working on the project? Whose box could this be?
Why was the project valuable, whether to the world or to your own life?   I believe that the cell phone project was valuable. It just goes to show that kids do have a voice and they can make a difference.
How has the project changed your view of the world, whether it be your personal world or the larger community/global world? The archeology project changed the way I look at things from when my ancestors were alive. How has working on projects allowed you to see other people’s perspectives? It showed me that some people have the same interests as me and they can also have very different interests.
How did you know what to believe when doing your projects? When doing the cell phone project I felt that if it was on the internet it should be right.    How was evidence important in demonstrating to others what you learned? For our research we had to cite our sources.
How did the project create a connection for you between subjects or topics that did not seem related before? I never thought that math and science could be taught as one, until we did the game board projects. Science Math
What kind of predictions can you make for your future - next semester or further?    I don’t think I will be doing G 2 in high school, but as for this year I will be finishing the year in G 2 . What changes will you make as a learner and/or team member and what do you predict the outcome will be as a result? As a learner I hope to continue to stay organized but I would also hope to try and perfect my skills as a learner and leader.

Editor's Notes

  1. -As a student last year I was not very organized at all. This year as a student I am so organized because I now knew I had to be organized. I always lost a lot of papers, but I still got good grades after I eventually found my papers and turned them in. I knew I had to be organized to succeed in this program. If I really want to succeed in this project I have to be careful of where I put stuff and the supplies I needed.
  2. -When doing the archeology project I asked so many questions. Maybe not out loud but in my head I was asking myself all kinds of questions. How is this going to work, I thought we weren’t going to be able to do it. At first I was very confused on how the whole process was going to work. I didn’t know if we where going to take dirt from outside and burry things in the box we had brought. Are we really going to go outside and burry items and then dig them back up, I thought we where going to go outside and actually dig a hole in the ground and burry the items we had brought from home. -While excavating I also asked myself who’s box could this be, we didn’t know what each others box looked like so I had no clue on who’s box I had chosen until I found the first two items.
  3. - The cell phone project was valuable to me because we actually made the policy change! We did it and it was so successful that we had a responsible use assembly and except the principal's and help from our teachers organizing it all kids where the only ones on stage.
  4. -This project has really taught me how the past was and that they where not a fortunate as we are today. They used so many different things than we did today. Archeologists are the people that go out and dig up that valuable history. This project showed me that people may have the same or different interests. -A lot of people like music so while excavating I found there was an Mp3 player buried in a plastic bag under dirt.
  5. I had a really good feeling when we where searching the internet to find our back ground research that it was right as long as we looked very closely and found what we needed. Yes different things popped up so we didn’t even bother looking at them. We knew what we where looking for and we just looked for that one thing. When we made our Prezi we copied all of our research sites off of our Google doc and pasted it on the Prezi so it wouldn’t look like we did it all, we gave the credit to the websites that we found our information from.
  6. - My friend Madison came over to my house and I was cleaning out my binder of the stuff I wouldn’t see anymore and she saw my rough draft for my painting and she said, “that’s the Quaternary period”, and that is how I knew I was learning the same criteria that they are in the traditional science classes but just in a different way. It really made me realize that G 2 really isn’t all that much different form the traditional classes.
  7. I don’t think I will be in G 2 next year. My parents and I both think I will have a better chance of getting into a good college and getting more scholarships. Yes G 2 was fun, it was a blast, and I will look back on this year for a long time, because it is the year I made my turn around and really started focusing and getting more organized. I really would like to stay organized. I think it will help a lot with my learning, and I wont lose important papers as much as I used to. I used to be the girl that always lost papers, and in this program I knew those papers where important and that I would need them in order to do my projects.
  8. I really have learned that doing projects for class can be really fun. I used to dread doing a project for a class, but now I love doing it because I know that it is helping me learn. I really wasn’t developing in any of my classes except math last year. I was in an excelled math class and the rest of my classes I was in the regular classes versus the excelled ones. Last year it was very hard for me to stay focused and pay attention. I was a “day dreamer” It was very hard for me to pay attention and this year I find myself being very focused and hardly ever “day dreaming”.
