POINT OF VIEW
POINT OF VIEW
This refers to the vantage
point from which a narrative
is told.
POINT OF VIEW (POV)
First-person POV - told by
one of the characters in
his or her own words, that
is, from the "I" vantage
point.
POINT OF VIEW (POV)
Third-person POV - The
narrator tells the story
from the vantage point of
"he" or "she."
POINT OF VIEW (POV)
Third-person POV
- may be omniscient or all-knowing
(an observer who can describe all
the characters and actions in the
story while also commenting on
what the characters think and feel)
THIRD-PERSON OMNISCIENT OR
ALL-KNOWING POV
“The knight, Sir Reginald, believed
his victory was inevitable, but his
rival, the sorceress Lyra, knew the
truth: his armor was a deception, a
clever trap she had prepared for
weeks."

Third-person POV
- may be limited (an author who
tells a story in the third person
from the point of view of only
one character)
THIRD-PERSON LIMITED POV
"He was sweating, his hands
shaking, as he glanced over his
shoulder. He knew his time was
limited. The security guard's eyes
met his, and he quickly looked away,
his heart pounding in his chest"

Second-person POV - The
reader is part of the story in the
second-person point of view.
The narrator describes the
reader's actions, thoughts, and
feelings using "you."

Fourth-person POV -
refers to telling a story
from a group perspective
using "we" and "us."
