3. PMC-Burundi
• In a recent article, a PMC Global Health Corps
fellow who worked in Burundi explained that deadly
political unrest has threatened PMC-Burundi’s work
and 10 years of post-civil war progress in the
country, with thousands of Burundians seeking
refuge in neighboring countries. Despite life-
threatening conditions in Burundi that have kept
PMC Global Health Corps fellows out of the country,
the article states that Burundian staff members at
PMC-Burundi have continued working whenever
possible over the last two months.

4. Conclusion
• The office’s local producer and country director
recently led a recording session to develop new
episodes of Agashi (“Hey! Look Again!”), a health
education radio drama, during a brief cessation in
hostilities. Although four of the radio stations that
broadcast Agashi have been shut down, the three
remaining stations will continue broadcasting new
episodes of PMC-Burundi’s radio show twice each
week. The organization will keep promoting family
planning, gender equity, balanced child nutrition,
and HIV prevention to the millions of Burundians
who listen to radio.
