you posted about stress and burnout is awesome. Really enjoyed reading it and totally agree
with your statement “ I can support my fellow students by creating a safe, supportive and
positive environment.” Also would like to add to your thoughts that one of the most
important ways to support our fellow classmates in the nursing program is to provide
emotional support that can only be done through the act of communication. “The Joint
Commission (TJC, 2017) recognizes that breakdown in communication is the root cause of
sentinel events, which are unexpected occurrences that result in death or serious injury.”
This can involve offering words of encouragement through difficult times, listening without
judgement and being understanding when someone is struggling to keep up with the
workload. It is also important to provide each other with helpful resources and suggestions,
such as books and articles that address various aspects of the nursing profession.
Additionally, we should offer constructive feedback when needed and be willing to help
each other in any way we can. Another way to support our fellow classmates is to create a
study group. Working together can help everyone understand and process the material
more effectively. Plus, it provides a great opportunity for networking and forming
meaningful relationships. Lastly, it is important to check in with each other regularly to see
how everyone is doing and make sure that no one gets left behind or feels overwhelmed. By
coming together and helping others succeed, we can create a supportive learning

as healthcare workers because of the rigorous and high-pressure nature of our jobs.
Knowing our personal risk factors and creating efficient coping mechanisms are crucial for
preventing burnout. Long hours, and emotional strain from caring for patients with serious
illnesses or injuries. In addition, it might be difficult to keep up with the best practices and
new research due to the healthcare industry’s continual change. I intend to use a few coping
mechanisms to avoid burnout. First and foremost, I’ll put self-care first and schedule time
for pastimes like working out, socializing with loved ones, and pursuing hobbies. I’ll also ask
for assistance from my coworkers and be sure to share any worries or difficulties I may be
having. This may contribute to fostering a culture of support and camaraderie at work.
Carrington College prepared me by putting me in a clinical environment and letting me
encounter real-world clinical stressors. When other students are experiencing stress or
burnout, having an open ear and a nonjudgmental attitude can go a long way toward
making them feel supported. A comfortable environment for other peers to discuss and
express their feelings can also be created by genuinely caring about their well-being. I can
also help my fellow student by giving them advice from my experience.Bullying can be
regarded as improper behavior at work. Bullying behavior is an unprofessional conduct,
which includes intimidation, harassment, and verbal or physical violence. Effective
communication tactics are necessary to prevent and end workplace bullying. We must
establish a culture of respect and do not tolerate bullying, encourage open communication,
conduct training and provide education about bullying, Lead by example and support those
people who report bullying. According to the nurse practice act, unprofessional conduct is a
“violation to statute”, which includes bullying because it may be a form of a boundary issue
or sexual misconduct depending in the circumstance(Yoder, 2019). People who were
responsible to bullying will be held accounted for their action. Verbal and written

students are provided with various resources to cope with stress such as tutoring, office
hours, and counseling. We would have to first know the physical signs of stress in order to
prevent burnout. An individual will see signs such as fatigue, change in sleeping habits,
headaches, hypertension, increased weight, crying, yelling, and blaming (Yoder, 2019). Once
we know what signs to look for, we can help out classmates while we are in school. If I
become aware that a student in our class is feeling stressed and burnt out, I would ask what
I can help them with. If my classmates do not understand course material, I would try my
best to help them look for resources or explain the material to the best of my knowledge. If
it is outside the scope of being a student, then I would see if it’s within my limits to help
them or look for someone who can help them. The following can help nurses shield from
the negative effects of workplace stress and potential to decrease burnout:
mindfulness,resilience, self-care, and well-being (Cochran, 2020).According to Yujeong
Kim’s article (2019), Nurses can experience bullying in various ways, including personal,
job-related and by intimidation. Negative consequences of workplace bullying vary from
reduced self-esteem to suicide by a coworker. Constantly being exposed to stressful
situations in the work field can be associated to: increased risk of hypertension, heart
disease, and may lead not only to physical problems (e.g., physical discomfort, fatigue, and
angina) but also to mental health issues (e.g., anxiety, depression, and posttraumatic stress
disorder) (Kim, 2020). Communication strategies and skills that I would utilize to prevent
or stop work bullying would be clear, active listening and resolution skills. The best way to
prevent workplace bullying is to implement a zero tolerance policy, establishing a safe zone
of communication, and clarifying miscommunications. Setting boundaries, limits and active
listening with coworkers, allows nurses to respect each other and not be hurtful.The Nurse
Practice act states that unprofessional conduct is a “violation of the statue”, which includes
“boundary issues; practicing while impaired; violating patient confidentiality; failing to
supervise persons to whom nursing functions have been delegated; inaccurate recording,
falsifying, or altering a patient or healthcare provider record; and sexual misconduct”
(Yoder, 2019). We can classify bullying as a boundary issues violation, because they are
intimidating and causing harm to another. Nurses who chose to cause such violation should
be punished, and hold to their actions with consequences. My responsibilities to ensure
accountability in staff nurse peers, is to be clear with my boundaries and 100% will inform
them when they have crossed the line, even if it was not towards my person. Nursing
already is stressful as it is, it doesn’t benefit the nurse nor the patient to make it a toxic
environment. Especially with such a high turnover rate we are seeing now, with nurses

(RON)- Hi Sandiya,I just wanted to let you know that the discussion you posted about stress and burnout is awesome. Really enjoyed reading it and totally agree with your statement “ I can support my fellow students by creating a safe, supportive and positive environment.” Also would like to add to your thoughts that one of the most important ways to support our fellow classmates in the nursing program is to provide emotional support that can only be done through the act of communication. “The Joint Commission (TJC, 2017) recognizes that breakdown in communication is the root cause of sentinel events, which are unexpected occurrences that result in death or serious injury.” This can involve offering words of encouragement through difficult times, listening without judgement and being understanding when someone is struggling to keep up with the workload. It is also important to provide each other with helpful resources and suggestions, such as books and articles that address various aspects of the nursing profession. Additionally, we should offer constructive feedback when needed and be willing to help each other in any way we can. Another way to support our fellow classmates is to create a study group. Working together can help everyone understand and process the material more effectively. Plus, it provides a great opportunity for networking and forming meaningful relationships. Lastly, it is important to check in with each other regularly to see how everyone is doing and make sure that no one gets left behind or feels overwhelmed. Knowing our personal risk factors and creating efficient coping mechanisms are crucial for preventing burnout. Long hours, and emotional strain from caring for patients with serious illnesses or injuries. In addition, it might be difficult to keep up with the best practices and new research due to the healthcare industry’s continual change. I intend to use a few coping mechanisms to avoid burnout. First and foremost, I’ll put self-care first and schedule time for pastimes like working out, socializing with loved ones, and pursuing hobbies. I’ll also ask for assistance from my coworkers and be sure to share any worries or difficulties I may be having. This may contribute to fostering a culture of support and camaraderie at work.
  • 2. Carrington College prepared me by putting me in a clinical environment and letting me encounter real-world clinical stressors. When other students are experiencing stress or burnout, having an open ear and a nonjudgmental attitude can go a long way toward making them feel supported. A comfortable environment for other peers to discuss and express their feelings can also be created by genuinely caring about their well-being. I can also help my fellow student by giving them advice from my experience.Bullying can be regarded as improper behavior at work. Bullying behavior is an unprofessional conduct, which includes intimidation, harassment, and verbal or physical violence. Effective communication tactics are necessary to prevent and end workplace bullying. We must establish a culture of respect and do not tolerate bullying, encourage open communication, conduct training and provide education about bullying, Lead by example and support those people who report bullying. According to the nurse practice act, unprofessional conduct is a “violation to statute”, which includes bullying because it may be a form of a boundary issue or sexual misconduct depending in the circumstance(Yoder, 2019). We would have to first know the physical signs of stress in order to prevent burnout. An individual will see signs such as fatigue, change in sleeping habits, headaches, hypertension, increased weight, crying, yelling, and blaming (Yoder, 2019). Once we know what signs to look for, we can help out classmates while we are in school. If I become aware that a student in our class is feeling stressed and burnt out, I would ask what I can help them with. If my classmates do not understand course material, I would try my best to help them look for resources or explain the material to the best of my knowledge. If it is outside the scope of being a student, then I would see if it’s within my limits to help them or look for someone who can help them. The following can help nurses shield from the negative effects of workplace stress and potential to decrease burnout: mindfulness,resilience, self-care, and well-being (Cochran, 2020).According to Yujeong Kim’s article (2019), Nurses can experience bullying in various ways, including personal, job-related and by intimidation. Negative consequences of workplace bullying vary from reduced self-esteem to suicide by a coworker. Constantly being exposed to stressful situations in the work field can be associated to: increased risk of hypertension, heart disease, and may lead not only to physical problems (e.g., physical discomfort, fatigue, and angina) but also to mental health issues (e.g., anxiety, depression, and posttraumatic stress disorder) (Kim, 2020). Communication strategies and skills that I would utilize to prevent or stop work bullying would be clear, active listening and resolution skills. The best way to prevent workplace bullying is to implement a zero tolerance policy, establishing a safe zone of communication, and clarifying miscommunications. Setting boundaries, limits and active listening with coworkers, allows nurses to respect each other and not be hurtful.The Nurse

Practice act states that unprofessional conduct is a “violation of the statue”, which includes “boundary issues; practicing while impaired; violating patient confidentiality; failing to supervise persons to whom nursing functions have been delegated; inaccurate recording, falsifying, or altering a patient or healthcare provider record; and sexual misconduct” (Yoder, 2019). We can classify bullying as a boundary issues violation, because they are intimidating and causing harm to another. Nurses who chose to cause such violation should be punished, and hold to their actions with consequences. My responsibilities to ensure accountability in staff nurse peers, is to be clear with my boundaries and 100% will inform them when they have crossed the line, even if it was not towards my person. Nursing already is stressful as it is, it doesn’t benefit the nurse nor the patient to make it a toxic environment.
