Please do not make paragraph shorter than original paragraph
Question: Develop a thesis pertaining to the assigned film text
and whether or not it, the film, in your view has the power to
transform one’s political sensibilities. Your argument should
express your point of view regarding the politics of difference,
political sensibilities, and political transformation(s) as related
to the film. Remember, you’re writing (developing) an
analytical essay. Submit your thesis statement in the box below:
(red color sentence should be included)
Answer: Gus Van Sant’s movie, My Own Private Idaho, has the
power to transform a one’s political sensibilities through the
process of finding Scott and Mike’s personal identity and using
factor of sexuality.
Question: 2. Develop three (3) topic sentences that articulate
the major ideas that will comprise the body of your essay.
Remember that your topic sentences should clearly state the
argument or point to be made in the respective paragraphs.
Submit your topic sentences in the box below:
Answer: Through the character Mike, he keeps looking for his
personal identity. Mike falls asleep without warning, anywhere
and at any time. He has missed and starts to find his mother. On
the road, he always says like he has been here before. Through
these words, he understands his own value. And then repeated
remembering past memory with mother also indicates that he
looks for his identity. The character Scott has double-faced.
Even though he is a son of mayor in reality, he is a prostitute
for the reason that he wants to defy his father. It shows that he
is lack of his identity because he has hanging out with Bob’s
groups and then goes back to his real life. On the scene in the
bar, Bob and his groupapproaches to Scott, but he just pretends
not to know them.
Question: 3. Identify three (3) scenes from the film that support
your thesis statement. Briefly explain:
Answer: On the beginning, middle and the end, the Mike stand
and lie on the street and then he always said that “I always
know where I am by the way the road looks like I just know that
I’ve been here before. There’s not another road anywhere that
looks like this road. It’s like someone’s face.” He does not
know where to start and how to stop in his endless confusion.
He suffers from hypnolepshy. In the scene 15:02, he tries to
work prostitute with middle-age women, but he just fell asleep
because of imaginary of his mother in the past. And then he
looks for his mother with Scott to Portland, Idaho, and Roma.
During this journey, Mike confesses his feelings to Scott. He
feels love to Scott. In this part, this movie uses sexuality
between them, which shows Mike’s identity confusion. On the
scene 01:33, there is Bob’s funeral right by Scott’s father
funeral. Scott pretends not to know Bob’s group. Scott has
hanging out with them and then just goes back to his real life,
which shows his mirror side identity.
Question: 4. Lastly, fully develop your introductory paragraph.
Remember that the best possible thesis will answer some
specific question about the text. In this case a question related
to the film’s power to transform political sensibilities regarding
difference:
Answer: Gus Van Sant’s movie, My Own Private Idaho, has the
power to transform a one’s political sensibilities by using factor
of sexuality and Scott and Mike’s personal identity. In this
movie, the main character Mike has been confused by his past.
He imagines his mother and his youth suffering from
hypnolepshy. Through this process, he tries to form his own
sense of value. Scott also hangs out with Mike by the middle of
the movie. During this time, he also tries to create his own
identity. And then he just goes back to his real life as a son of
mayor. Between two characters, Mike feels love to Scott. This
part shows Mike’s sexuality.
