… Genre I was always set on creating a horror/thriller due to my love to horror films. I researched many horror films which I felt I could base my ideas on. I decided to expand my ideas by introducing a science experiment gone wrong theme into my plot and narrative. By doing this I had slightly altered my genre to sci-fi horror. I also decided to use a zombie style of enemy which again expanded my films sub genre to zombie/survival horror. Zombies horrors have been a popular over the recent years, with such features as ‘dawn of the dead’, ‘rec and rec2’ and ‘day of the dead’. I decided to follow the popular genre so to appeal to a mass audience. My genre of film became unique when I introduced the source of the infection (a HIV vaccine).

… Genre Here you can see this very clearly relates the film to the sci-fi genre as one of the characters included in the trailers is a scientist. You can see that the film has horror elements within as here you can see an image of one of the zombies in the film. Finally this film includes a stereotypical character, the police. It is often found that there is an authoritative character for either the good or bad

… Genre You could say that my film is both regressive, as it does take on elements of originality, however, I feel that my genre type is mainly progressive as it does copy a few ideas from other films and it takes on a genre which has been used before.

… Genre There are many visual aspects that are all associated to a sci-fi zombie horror. The props for example, the guns, the bloody tee-shirts and the fake vampire teeth are all icons which suggest violence, death and fear. These are all elements within a typical horror film. The lighting also conforms to the conventions of the horror genre, as I have filmed my clips only using light from torches which has made it very dark. I have also placed a blue and green filter over the final clips using final cut which has made the clips look cold and sickly, which again is found a lot in horrors. The one area which my have not clearly symbolised a conventional horror is the mise-en-scene as unfortunately I could not gain access or permission to film in the other locations I chose (being abandoned warehouses). This forced me to shoot at my home.

… Narrative __________________________________________________________ My film trailer hold some structure as it has a beginning, and middle. However there isn’t really an end. I decided not to end my teaser as I decided to leave my audience guessing what could happen. This would entice them to view the full length feature. Due to there being a structure, my teaser conforms to Barthes theory of narrative. … Narrative The genre has developed the narrative, as it I have gone into great detail to justify a specific genre. (sci-fi zombie horror). This was the foundation for my narrative as conventionally the story and plot should and does include humans (a swat team, which also conforms to the conventions as it bends and shapes the narrative) fighting off a horde of zombies (again shaping the narrative) and trying to survive as long as possible whilst trying to find a cure or the reason for infection.

As the form of my teaser is film, this can alter the narrative as it is all visual and props, mise-en-scene, sound and feel can alter the narrative for the audience. … Narrative

… Audience I researched in great detail my specific audience type and whom I shall be aiming my film towards. I concluded that the majority of horror films are aimed at male teenagers to young adults (14-28).

I tried to make the trailer extremely obvious of the genre so that the audience would know from the very beginning whether they thought it suitable to watch. For this I included inter titles to explain the plot that would hopefully sum up to the audience the genre and the themes involved. … Audience

… Audience The audience will make assumptions biased on the inter titles. The “the results were terrifying” screen I think sums up the film.

… Representation My film trailer only represents a few types stereotypes, such as the main characters, (the police team), being played as males as they are seen to be more authoritative. The film also represents horror and it stereotypically fulfils many stereotypes found in horror films, such as the lighting, the cast and characters.
