This document discusses different ways to format a disc or drive, including through Windows Explorer, Disk Management, and Command Prompt. It notes that formatting erases all existing data and recreates file system clusters. Drives can be formatted using either NTFS or FAT file systems and the quick format option is used for subsequent formats of the same drive. The document also briefly mentions that partitioning divides a hard disk into multiple logical drives of specified sizes.
This document provides an overview of several common network protocols:
- TCP is responsible for transferring data between systems using different protocols and port numbers. It works with IP and other protocols like POP, IMAP, SMTP, HTTP, DNS, and DHCP.
- IP assigns 32-bit logical addresses to identify systems on a network and routes data through public and private networks.
- Protocols like HTTP, POP3, SMTP, IMAP, and DNS serve specific functions like transferring web pages, email, and converting between domain names and IP addresses. DHCP automatically assigns IP addresses to client systems on a network.
The document discusses different types of power supplies used in computer systems. A switch mode power supply (SMPS) converts AC to DC and provides multiple voltage outputs to run a system. If an SMPS is not working properly, the cables should be checked. An uninterrupted power supply (UPS) provides backup power in the event of a main power failure to keep a system running temporarily. Several manufacturers of UPS devices are also listed.
Viruses are programs that can damage or corrupt computer systems in various ways, such as program viruses, boot viruses, and network viruses. Common virus types include Trojans, worms, and Wdll32. Antivirus software protects systems from virus infections by providing security from malicious programs. However, retroviruses can corrupt or damage antivirus programs. Popular antivirus companies mentioned include Norton, MacAfee, Quick heal, Kaspersky, AVG, Avast, Avira, Escan, and K7.
The document discusses IP addresses and related networking concepts. It defines an IP address as a 32-bit logical address assigned to computers and networking devices to identify them on a network. IP addresses are divided into four octets with 8 bits each. The IANA manages global IP address space allocations. Private IP addresses are used for local networks and do not route over the public internet, while public IPs are required to access the internet. There are different classes of IP addresses that define ranges for different network sizes. IP version 6 is the next generation 128-bit IP addressing system currently under development.
This document provides tips for students who are falling behind on their coursework in journalism. It recommends creating a plan to become current by opening grades, downloading assignments, and calculating how many assignments need to be completed each day. The plan advises students to divide the number of assignments needed by the number of days available. Communicating with the teacher for help is also emphasized. The goal is to form the habit of accessing the course daily to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
The document provides advice to students on staying focused in the week before midterms. It emphasizes the importance of staying current on work, getting enough rest, fueling your brain with healthy food, taking breaks, and focusing to finish assignments before the midterm deadline. It also provides the midterm information date of March 20th and contact information for questions.

The document discusses various topics related to internet technology. It defines internet as an interconnected global network of devices using common communication protocols. It describes how to access the internet using a browser and entering a URL. It differentiates intranets, which are private networks not accessible publicly, from extranets, which allow private network access via public networks. It also discusses internet browsers, spam emails, malware/spyware/phishing, blocking websites, deleting browsing history, popular social media/search engines/email sites, and other computer-related websites.
The document discusses troubleshooting common computer problems like no display, no sound, and failure to start up. For a no display issue, potential causes include the monitor not being powered on, loose or improper video and power cable connections, the CPU not receiving power, or damaged or loose RAM. Solutions involve checking cable connections, reseating the RAM, and ensuring the power supply is functioning properly. No sound could be due to improper speaker cable connection or muted sound settings. A failure to start up may stem from issues with hardware not receiving power after turning the computer on.

This document provides tips for students who are falling behind on their work in an online journalism class. It recommends making a plan to become current by reviewing assignments in the gradebook, downloading the assignment schedule, and calculating how many assignments need to be completed each day. The document stresses the importance of accessing the online course daily to form a habit and avoid falling too far behind. It also encourages students to communicate with the teacher if they have any questions or need help.
This document outlines the functions of various system utility tools in Windows, including computer management for overall system services, disc management for hard disk partitioning and formatting, local users and groups for user account administration, services for starting and stopping background processes, disc defragmentation for organizing files contiguously, device manager for hardware driver management, and system information which can be accessed by running msinfo32.
Open data and apps for people with a handicap
How to make your new kind of open data? How can you translate data to people with a mental disability? In this talk I talk about the opportunity to work with data from other organizations that work in the sector for people with a disability, rather than the Government. And most of all how you can make them accessible with apps specific made for people who haven't the mental capacity to read / write!

A fresh look at vascularized flexor tendon transfersOTTO
This document summarizes a study on vascularized flexor tendon transfers for secondary flexor tendon reconstruction. The authors present results from their surgical experience using vascularized tendon transfers in 71 cases over 20 years. Their technique is based on an understanding of the sliding mechanisms and microvascular architecture of flexor tendons. By transferring living, vascularized tendons, they are able to transfer the sliding capability while avoiding the traditional two-stage reconstruction process. Results show better outcomes than traditional techniques with considerable time savings. Vascularized tendon transfers provide biological and physical advantages for improved secondary reconstruction outcomes.
RAM is a type of volatile memory that temporarily stores data. There are different types of RAM such as EDO, SRAM, DRAM, SDRAM, DDRRAM, and RDRAM. SDRAM has 2 notches, 168 pins, and installs in SIMM sockets on motherboards. DDRRAM is faster than SDRAM, installs in DIMM slots on motherboards with a single notch, uses less power, and comes in types like DDR I, DDR II, and DDR III. Common RAM manufacturers include Mercury, Transcend, Kingston, LG, Hynix, and HP.

The document provides guidance for students on their second day of an online journalism course. It recommends that students continue working on the Getting Started Lesson, check their Assignment Schedule for upcoming due dates, submit a help desk ticket or email the instructor if any issues arise, and fill out the Information Survey to provide their contact details. Students are wished a great day and reminded to complete the Getting Started Lesson for Module 1 to open.
