Recreation:
Physical and
Outdoor
Physical recreation

 Recreation means to re create oneself,
i.e. to re charge your batteries or to
   make yourself new.
 We can do many activities as
Recreation, but we are concerned only
with ones that have a large physical
component, so we are interested in
   PHYSICAL Recreation!
So what is it………
When an activity is taken part as
 Physical Recreation, the focus is:

 -Taking part rather than winning
 -Having a good experience rather
 than adhering to National
 Governing Body Rules
 -Personal satisfaction rather than
 breaking records (intrinsic value!)
 -Enjoyment rather than
 competition
Exam tip…….
The characteristics of physical recreation are grouped…..if you give one answer from
a group you cannot give another!

    1 Available to all
2 Time flexible / decided by agreement
3 Space or location not fixed / decided by agreement
4 Limited rules / no rules / limited organisation
    5 Limited levels of competition
6 Limited levels of skill and / or fitness / don’t need to be good at it
7 Serious coaching or training not required / commitment not required
8 Not usually covered by the media
    9 No sponsorship or funding
    10 Enjoyment / Social / fun / relaxed / non serious
    11 Pre occupation / amateuer / voluntary / intrinsic / not paid / health
           benefits
12 Basic equipment or facilities / basic clothing / inexpensive

Basically Physical recreation has a little more organisation than Play, but
         much less than sport!
Exam type ideas….
