- #12 Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online has been available in the US and Canada since April 2008. In fact there have already been 5 service release updates since it launched with the latest in May of this year. Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online will go global (40 markets / 41 languages) in Q1 calendar year 2011 based on the new Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 product. One important benefit of CRM Online is that it will always contains the latest features and updates available because we always deliver to our cloud service first. On this slide we’ve broken up the primary benefits into 3 areas: Instant Online Access, Familiar Outlook Experience and Better Value.CRM Online you get the benefits of the Cloud in terms of rapid set up and deployment, anywhere access, and predictable pricing. - #21 Headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, Energizer Holdings manufactures dry cell batteries, flashlights, and personal care products. Its global operations span five continents and it conducts business in 165 countries. The corporate IT division at Energizer constantly looks for new ways to get more out of technology and believes that technology innovation can help expand its reach and reduce its time to market. With 81 locations worldwide, most locations have their own private branch exchange (PBX) systems; they have their own voice-mail systems as well. The PBX systems are expensive to operate and maintain. Besides the cumbersome PBX systems, another challenge Energizer faces is the constantly evolving mobile workplace. With this culture shift, employees that used to be located in an office with a PBX system are now more mobile and their demands for mobile communication have increased. People could access their e-mail and SharePoint sites from anywhere, but they had no way to answer their desk phones. They had to take calls and check voice mail from their desk phones and their mobile phones, which created extra work. Energizer wanted to find a progressive solution to meet its voice communications challenge. The company could see that voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) was the next wave for office communication, so it turned to Microsoft to see how it could best use its current online communications services while upgrading its voice communication capabilities.
- #22 After determining that VoIP would be the best solution to help address its aging PBX systems and mobile workforce’s demands, Energizer decided that it would take advantage of hosted voice capabilities from Microsoft based on Office Communications Online, included in the Business Productivity Online Suite of Microsoft Online Services, now part of Office 365. Global Crossing worked with Energizer and Microsoft to tailor and deploy a VoIP solution that allows them to consolidate PBX systems, reducing expensive maintenance costs. Because it’s a cloud-based system, it can follow employees anywhere they have a PC and IP connection. Employees can also take advantage of rich voice-mail features such as Voice-Mail Preview, which converts voice-mail messages to e-mail that workers can access and respond to through Outlook on their desktop or mobile phone. Energizer can also enable employees to receive calls through Microsoft Office Communicator on both their computers and their mobile phones, and provide employees with the ability to conduct multiparty audio and video conferencing.Setting up for deployment of the new voice capabilities was easy. Microsoft arranged the voice connection and Energizer set up a contract and billing, making for a smooth transition with the voice carrier.

Rich voice capabilities like Voice-Mail Preview help the company ensure that employees are truly mobile. Energizer can also provide employees with the ability to conduct multiparty audio and video conferencing.By replacing and consolidating aging PBX systems Energizer can reduce expensive maintenance costs, as many tasks are handled by Microsoft as part of the hosted environment. Eliminating outdated voice-mail systems attached to each PBX further reduces the need for maintenance, because voice mail is provided as part of the Online Service.

- #25 Since launching Home and Garden Television (HGTV) in 1994, Scripps Networks Interactive (SNI) has become a leader in lifestyle media. In addition to HGTV, SNI runs the Food Network, DIY Network, Fine Living Network, and Great American Country. SNI programming is seen in more than 170 countries on seven continents around the world. SNI is based in Cincinnati, Ohio, and has 2,000 employees. In 2008, its parent company E.W. Scripps, made the strategic decision to spin off SNI as a stand-alone company. SNI needed to give its 2,000 employees the same enterprise-class messaging services that they had enjoyed at the parent firm, namely, Microsoft Exchange Server and the Microsoft Office Outlook messaging and collaboration client. The SNI IT staff had a very short time in which to build the required infrastructure and limited people resources with which to support it. The IT team also had to guarantee that no interruptions of the email messaging service would occur during the transition, either to the Office Outlook client or to BlackBerry mobile messaging services that are used by 800 employees. With email communications as the lifeline within and between internal departments and its business partners, if email at SNI stopped the business stopped.
- #26 In late 2008, SNI learned about the Microsoft Business Productivity Online Standard Suite (recently renamed Office 365), part of Microsoft Online Services,which includesMicrosoft Exchange Online, Microsoft SharePoint Online, Microsoft Office Live Meeting, and Microsoft Office Communications Online. After a successful three-week pilot program and with the help of PointBridge, a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, SNI forged ahead with the migration. In just three weekends, they successfully moved all 2000 employees to Microsoft Exchange Online. During this time, SNI also implemented Exchange message filtering and email archiving, and switched the company’s 800 BlackBerry users to accessing their email messages from Microsoft data centers. By subscribing to Microsoft Exchange online, SNI upgraded the company’s messaging infrastructurewithout purchasing a single server or installing and testing any new software, a significant capital savings. Built-in access to Microsoft Forefront Online Protection for Exchange provided better virus and spam protection. Plus, they reduced maintenance costs associated with managing servers, allowing IT staff to focus on business innovation. Another big plus was far easier access to email messages for employees who travel or work from home, sincethey could now get to their email from any web browser.While Microsoft Exchange Online was the primary reason for SNI to subscribe to Microsoft Business Productivity Online Standard Suite, the company is also taking advantage of the other programs in the suite to simplify document sharing and speed internal communications.

It avoided considerable capital and operational expenses and has outsourced all email-related worries to Microsoft.Three-Weekend MigrationUsing Microsoft Online Services, SNI was able to get a full-featured, enterprise-class messaging system deployed to users in less than 30 days. “By moving to Microsoft Exchange Online, we were able to set up a fully functional messaging environment in just three weekends,” Akurati says. “Transitioning to a traditional outsourced solution usually takes 60 to 90 days, because of steps for testing, training, documenting, sharing knowledge, and other processes, which we completely eliminated with Microsoft Exchange Online.” Akurati adds that the smooth migration was just as critical as the speed at which it was accomplished. “A stable email environment is absolutely crucial to our business,” he says. “Our revenue stream depends on email. PointBridge and Microsoft really helped us plan and accomplish the migration very smoothly. And the fact that Microsoft data centers are SAS 70 certified and contain the latest security and operational practices gives us huge peace of mind.” SAS 70 is an auditing statement issued by the Auditing Standards Board of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants that provides guidance to service auditors when assessing the internal controls of a service organization such as a hosting facility. Microsoft data centers also provide 99.9 percent scheduled uptime with financially backed service-level agreements.Cost Avoidance of $500,000 AnnuallySNI also significantly lowered messaging costs—by a factor of three or four—by subscribing to Microsoft Online Services. “The cost of building an on-premises messaging infrastructure from scratch and staffing was twice as high as the cost of Microsoft Online Services, and the cost of going the partner-hosted route was three or four times higher,” Hale says. “By going with Microsoft Online Services, we made a strategic decision to work with Microsoft in building long-term business value, and we avoided $500,000 annually on the cost of an on-premises environment. We also avoided an approximate $475,000 in one-time costs to buy the needed hardware.” Additionally, with Microsoft Online Services, SNI gets a predictable monthly fee that management can plug into operating budgets. “If a server dies or overtime labor is needed for server maintenance or software upgrades, Microsoft bears that cost, not us,” Akurati says. “Plus, Microsoft Online Services gives us a ‘pay as you go’ model; we only pay for the messaging infrastructure that we’re using rather than building excess infrastructure to withstand peak-traffic periods or accommodate future growth.”Outsourced Email WorriesAnother huge value of Microsoft Online Services to SNI is that the IT staff simply doesn’t have to think about messaging on a day-to-day basis. “We don’t have to lay out a strategic migration plan or budget for Microsoft Exchange Server 2010,” Akurati says. “We are putting no time into it; Microsoft will simply turn it on for us when it’s available. The only thing that we have to worry about is the cultural adoption of new products; Microsoft takes care of the technical issues. Our staff is free to focus on developing new services that make our company more competitive and attract more viewers and subscribers.”
