Student Page Title Introduction Task Process Evaluation Conclusion Credits [ Teacher Page ] You are taking on a new persona you have stepped into the shoes of a famous photographer.  You will explore their life and the way that they approach picture taking.  Through an exploration of the photographers work you will take on the task of shooting film to emulate their style.  You will discover who this person was or is, what they photographed, and how they their achieved their pictorial aesthetic.  You will be working on your own so as a class we can learn about as many photographers as possible.  Resources

The student worked for the majority of the classs on thier project but had a little trouble staying focused. The student did not use their time in class very effectivley, they got some work completed but were not productive for the majority of class This student did not use any o their class time effectivley. Content Shows a full understanding of the topic. Shows a good understanding of the topic. Shows a good understanding of parts of the topic. Does not seem to understand the topic very well. Achievment of artist style The photos that the studetn took communicate the same style as the artist that they reasearched There is a noticable connection between the studetns photographs and the artists but the connection could be stronger The students photos hardly represent the style of the artist. The photos that the student took do not relate to the photos of the artist in any way. Time-Limit Presentation is 6-7 minutes long. Presentation is 5minutes long. Presentation is 4 minutes long. Presentation is less than 4 minutes OR more than 7 minutes. Listens to Other Presentations Listens intently. Does not make distracting noises or movements. Listens intently but has one distracting noise or movement. Sometimes does not appear to be listening but is not distracting. [ Student Page ] Title Introduction Learners Standards Process Resources Credits Teacher Page This was adapted from a lesson done at Preston Junior High,  parts of it were changed to make it appropriate for high school students.  This lesson is designed to allow students to explore the work of famous photographers.  In looking at work of professionals it will allow  the students to determine what type of photography appeals to them.  This lesson should also allow students to evaluate their own work, in comparison to the artist of their choice .  Evaluation Teacher Script Conclusion

This lesson can be adapted for other grade levels, by making the amount of information and number of photos required less.  The learners will need to know how take pictures, develop film, use dark room techniques to print their images, how to research and create a power point presentation. [ Student Page ] Title Introduction Learners Standards Process Resources Credits Teacher Page This lesson will probably take three weeks to complete the project and a week for presentations.  It will take about a week for the students to shoot and develop their  film, a week to print all of their images, about a week to do the research and create their presentations and a week to give presentations, it might be good to spread out the presentations and begin working on another project while the students are presenting.  Prior to teaching this lesson it might be helpful to expose students to a variety of artists so they have a feel for what is available to them.  The lesson will take a few class periods in the computer lab, to allow the students to research a variety of artists. It is important that the students are using their own ideas to create their images and not simply copying the exact ideas of the photographer they selected.  Evaluation Teacher Script Conclusion
[ Student Page ] Title Introduction Learners Standards Process Resources Credits Teacher Page The WebQuest model is best suited for learners who can navigate the Web on their own and can read the kinds of material commonly found on the Web. We can stretch the format to reach primary-aged learners, developmental English Language Learners and special populations by creating a facilitated WebQuest, one that requires an adult or older peer to drive things. When you begin the lesson reserve time in the computer lab, give the students the first part of the class to look at a few artists and decide which ones they are interested in.  Allow each student to sign up for their artists without duplicates.  Give them time to research and begin creating their presentations.  At the end of the class tell them to shoot their roll of film in the style of that artists.  The next class will be spent developing film.  Give them a week to get their prints finished.  They will need another session in the computer lab to scan in their images and write their comparisons.  I would begin a new project and have the students present a few projects per day. You will explore their life and the way that they approach picture taking. Through an exploration of the photographers work you will take on the task of shooting film to emulate their style. You will discover who this person was or is, what they photographed, and how they their achieved their pictorial aesthetic. This lesson can be adapted for other grade levels, by making the amount of information and number of photos required less. It will take about a week for the students to shoot and develop their film, a week to print all of their images, about a week to do the research and create their presentations and a week to give presentations, it might be good to spread out the presentations and begin working on another project while the students are presenting. Prior to teaching this lesson it might be helpful to expose students to a variety of artists so they have a feel for what is available to them. The lesson will take a few class periods in the computer lab, to allow the students to research a variety of artists. We can stretch the format to reach primary-aged learners, developmental English Language Learners and special populations by creating a facilitated WebQuest, one that requires an adult or older peer to drive things. When you begin the lesson reserve time in the computer lab, give the students the first part of the class to look at a few artists and decide which ones they are interested in. Allow each student to sign up for their artists without duplicates. Give them time to research and begin creating their presentations. At the end of the class tell them to shoot their roll of film in the style of that artists. The next class will be spent developing film. Give them a week to get their prints finished. They will need another session in the computer lab to scan in their images and write their comparisons. I would begin a new project and have the students present a few projects per day.
